NIU (5-5) looks to build some momentum heading into Mid-American Conference play after a 51-50 overtime win over Idaho State at the Convocation Center on Dec. 20. The Huskies held the Bengals to 25 percent from the field and 20 percent from the three-point line, both season-lows for NIU. It was the third time this season the Huskies held an opponent under 60 points. NIU has won 15 straight games when holding its opponent to 60 points or less since the start of the 2022-23 season.

Graduate forward Brooke Stonebraker led NIU with 14 points, 13 rebounds and three blocked shots in the win over Idaho State. It was her second double-double in the last three games. Stonebraker is averaging 17.3 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game over her last three games. She is sixth in the MAC in rebounding at 7.7 per game, having pulled down at least five rebounds in nine of the first 10 games of this season.

NIU leads the MAC in three-point percentage at 36.8 percent. Lexi Carlsen (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) was 4-for-8 from the three-point line in NIU’s win over Idaho State, tying a season-high for threes. She also had four threes in the Huskies’ win over Indiana State on Dec. 15. Carlsen is 8-for-18 from the three-point arc over the last five games.

Viterbo (10-3) comes to DeKalb for the first time in program history Saturday on the heels of an 83-47 win at Trinity Christian on Dec. 21. The V-Hawks led 38-26 at halftime then outscored the Trolls 22-9 in the third quarter. Lauryn Goettl led Viterbo with 15 points off the bench in only 13 minutes. The V-Hawks shot 40.3 percent from the field and held Trinity Christian to 1-for-8 from the three-point arc. Viterbo also scored 20 points off 21 Trolls turnovers. The V-Hawks average 76.2 points per game and allow 59.8 points per game. Nine players average at least five points per game, led by Olivia Lambrigtsen’s 9.6 points per game. Nicole Johnson leads the team with 5.3 rebounds per game.

NIU opens MAC play on Wednesday, Jan. 1 at Toledo. Tip-off at Savage Arena is at 3 p.m. CT.
