Falatea’ attempt at a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:17 left was off the mark and later the Ducks were within two points with 22 seconds to play, but Illinois fended off UO by connecting on 3-of-4 free throw tries down the stretch.Illinois’ Genesis Bryant scored eight points in the first, with six points coming from the free throw line. It’s going to come down to the end, that’s just the way it is,” said UO head coach Kelly Graves. “Every little play matters and we just didn’t make enough of those.”Despite UO limiting the Illini to 15 made field goals, Illinois went 30-of-38 from the free throw line in the game, going 10-for-11 in the first quarter. Oregon made a season-high 16 free throws on 21 attempts. Two Bryant free throws extended UI’s lead to a dozen early in the second quarter, but the Ducks rebounded by scoring the game’s next 11 points. At the same time, I thought we did some good things defensively: we turned them over a lot, kept them out of sync.”Falatea scored five points in the first minute of the fourth quarter, capped by a three-point play off a steal to give the Ducks their first lead since the 4:04 mark of the first quarter, 42-40.
