Motion Motorsport Report for InsideTrackNews.com – August 20, 2025

Dave Mathers - Monday Morning Motormouth!
Dave Mathers

In this week’s Motion Motorsport Report for InsideTrackNews.com, Dave Mathers discusses the big news from around the world of racing, as well as covering the action taking place at home and abroad.

Hands up anybody who remembers the big announcement about a rich Malaysian forming a new Formula One team way back in 2012. The team was named Caterham and it only lasted two years before going into administration.

Apparently a company named Saad Kassis-Mohamed Capital wants to revive the dormant team and enter the series in two years. There was a huge outcry when Cadillac was seeking entry as the 11th team due to the revenue being shared by eleven teams instead of the existing ten. We’ll just have to wait and see the protestations if a 12th team is added.

BREAKING NEWS – N’OH CANADA – Today, NASCAR unveiled the 2026 schedules for its three ‘national’ touring series (Cup Series, O’Reilly Auto Parts Series (currently Xfinity) and Craftsman Truck Series). While there had been whispers of a possible return to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park for the Trucks and O’Reilly and/or Cup going to Montreal, none of those things happened.

In a press conference after the schedules were released, NASCAR’s Ben Kennedy said, “Yeah, we’d love to be both north of the border and south of the border in the future and potentially beyond that at some point. We’ve had a handful of conversations with a few groups north of the border interested in a national series race. We haven’t been able to deliver that yet. But I would say that is something at that we’re taking a look at as we think about 2027 and beyond. We have some good relationships up there. I think the good news is we have experience bringing both our O’Reilly Series and our Craftsman Truck Series north of the border with a handful of promoters. Nothing to report today, obviously, but something that is high on our consideration set for ’27.”

BIG NEWS – from Jayski – “Halmar Friesen Racing announced today that Canadian Super Late Model standout Cole Butcher (right) will pilot the No. 62 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro in the upcoming UNOH 200 presented by Ohio Logistics at Bristol Motor Speedway, on September 11.”

Butcher, of course, is the 26-year-old Late Model ace from Nova Scotia who has made a big name for himself racing on the ASA National Tour Series in the US. And he is definitely jumping into the deep end making his Truck debut at Bristol. Canada will be cheering for him that’s for sure.

One of the coolest events on the weekend was the appearance of 24 nostalgic IROC cars at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca. The list of drivers was VERY impressive including Mark Martin, Bill Elliott, Ken Schrader and others. The event was put together by Ray Evernham who is the title holder of the IROC name along with his partner Rob Kauffman. The cars included Camaros, Firebirds, Porsches, Dodge Daytonas and even a Dodge Avenger. Tomy Drissi won the race Saturday followed by Dario Franchitti and Kurt Busch, all three driving Pontiac Firebirds.

WD-40 Smart Straw is the same reliable multi-purpose formula, specially designed for versatile applications without fear of losing the straw. For smaller areas or tight, hard-to-reach spaces, flip the straw up for a precise spray that keeps you from putting WD-40 where you don’t want it!

With a simple snap, you can simply fold the smart straw back against the canister, and the wide spray nozzle remains at your disposal if you need more coverage.

NASCAR Cup Series – In qualifying for the race Saturday night at Richmond Raceway Ryan Preece (Ford) won the pole over Tyler Reddick (Toyota) and A.J. Allmendinger (Chev). Ford/Toyota/Chev. 38 cars, 16 Chevs, 12 Fords and 10 Toyotas.

Everything went smoothly in Stage 1 with second place starter Tyler Reddick getting the stage win. Interestingly at the 100 lap mark it was three Toyotas followed by three Fords followed by three Chevs.

The first race caution came out on lap 181 when Reddick got hit by Ty Gibbs and spun into the wall. Gibbs had been tagged by Daniel Suarez. It’s always been said that cautions breed cautions and that was the case at Richmond. On lap 191 Cody Ware spun on corner 2 exit after contact from John Hunter Nemechek for the second race yellow. One lap after the restart Chase Briscoe got sideways in the pack going into 3 and at least ten cars got collected. After that happened Kyle Busch and Chase Elliott got together in 4 while slowing down. Caution 3!! The in-car cameras were amazing showing the wrecks in real time!! Bubba Wallace won Stage 2. The final stage ran caution free and Austin Dillon won the race over Suarez and Ryan Blaney.

BROCKVILLE ONTARIO SPEEDWAY: This Saturday (August 23) at The BOS, there’s a busy night of dirt oval action with the Ogilvie’s Triple Crown Series featuring a 50-lap main for the Modifieds. The Sportsman feature will be 40 laps, with the Novice Sportsman, Surprenant Truck Shop Crate Sprints and Street Stocks on track. Note: It’s the final points night of the season for the Crate Sprints.

Last Saturday night at The BOS, the Mid Summer Splash delivered plenty of action across six divisions. In the 25-lap DIRTcar Sportsman feature, Tyler Stewart led early before four-time and defending champion Bobby Herrington powered to the front on lap 7 and never looked back, scoring his fifth win of 2025 and 39th of his Brockville career. Matt Barbour, Xavier Andrews, Dominick Merkley and Jessica Power completed the top five.

The Mini Stock Mini Series finale saw Hayden Brown lead early before 2022 champ Jamie Larocque took over with 10 to go, holding off Mike Saunders and Brown for the victory. Clayton Celovsky rebounded to fifth, clinching the series crown.

Jarrett Herbison captured redemption in the 30-lap DIRTcar 358 Modified feature, outdueling Gabriel Cyr and Cedric Gauvreau for his second career win. APC Series – Next race – Sauble, Saturday.

Ontario Sportsman Series – Flamboro – Saturday, August 23 – Next race – Full Throttle, Saturday, September 6.

DELAWARE SPEEDWAY: Things got a ‘little’ chaotic Friday night when it was discovered there were problems with the wiring for the transponders which meant no scoreboard nor Race Monitor. This meant going back to ‘Old School’ timing.

Recruited for the task was none other than Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame member Alex Nagy. AND some child labour as well with Dayna Morneau, sister of two-time Delaware Track Champion Ray Morneau, being pressed into service. And this lack of Live Timing brought another problem that needs to be addressed. Numbers on race cars!!

Try scoring a race with cars with unreadable numbers or no numbers at all!! I can relate to the wiring problem as every once in a while we had problems with our 1½ miles of wiring for timing and scoreboards when my wife and I owned St. Thomas Dragway. NOT fun.

Bone Stocks – Heat 1 was won by David Rockwood, Heat 2 went to Will Quarrie (the actual winner didn’t make it through the ‘Room of Gloom’), Heat 3 was won by Michael Verberne. The B Main was won by Adam Jeneroux. Donavin Clark took the feature over Quarrie, Charlie Verhoeven, Verberne and Paul Fothergill.

Super Stocks – Heat 1 was won by Pete Vanderwyst, Jr., Heat 2 went to Nic Ramsay while the brutal feature (5 caution periods) went to points leader Trevor Colver ahead of Ramsay, Hudson Nagy, Brody Rickwood and Carson Nagy.

Late Models – unlike the Super Stocks the Late Models played nicely and went green to checker with Matt Robblee getting the win over Ron Beauchamp, Jr., Jake Sheridan, Jesse Kennedy and Marshall Schrenk.

This Friday (August 22) Delaware Speedway’s Weekly Racing Program is presented by J-AAR. Fans in attendance will see late-season action featuring the EPIC Racewear Modifieds, the Experience Camping Late Models in a 75-lap special and the King of the Hill Spectator Races. Full Throttle Motor Speedway – next race – Chalmers Fuels Night, Saturday.

Sunset Speedway – next race – Second to None: First Responders Night,  Saturday.

Grand Bend Speedway – next race – NASCAR Weekly Series + Tri state Sprints, Saturday.

EDMONTON INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY (EIR): Located in Wetaskiwin, Alberta – not far from Edmonton – EIR is Western Canada’s only NASCAR-sanctioned race track. In addition to a busy racing schedule, the facility also offers many other great experiences including having you drive a race car on the track, or taking fast laps as a passenger in a race car driven by an experienced racer.

Or you can bring your own race car! These experiences take place until late September. To find out more about EIR and all the great things happening there, visit www.EdmontonRaceway.com.

Honda Newly Launches “Discover Honda” Content Curation Media Platform — TradingView News

Published

on

TOKYO, Dec 26, 2025 – (JCN Newswire) – Honda Motor Co., Ltd. today launched a content curation media platform, Discover Honda, on its corporate information website(1). Discover Honda is a media platform that holistically curates and clearly communicates a wide range of Honda initiatives, including Honda products, technologies, designs, and the thoughts of Honda associates who create them, as well as various corporate activities including the environment, safety and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

Discover Honda URL:https://global.honda/jp/discover/ (Japanese) https://global.honda/en/discover/ (English)

Key features of Discover Honda

Discover Honda is a newly created media platform that curates (gathers) and posts articles from multiple Honda owned media(2) platforms that currently exist within the Honda corporate information website. This will enable users to access articles that were previously scattered across various owned media in one place and in a timely manner. In addition, Discover Honda will share feature articles which will compile multiple articles related to certain selected themes. For example, by selecting a single product as a theme, the feature article will enable readers to explore a series of articles written about the product from different aspects, such as technologies, designs and the thoughts of Honda associates who were involved in the development of the product. Feature articles on Discover Honda are designed to enable the readers to gain a deeper and more multifaceted understanding of the particular themes.

At its launch, Discover Honda is featuring two special articles: one on the all-new Prelude, which went on sale in Japan in September of this year, and the other on electric motorcycles. New feature articles are scheduled to be added on monthly basis.

Concept of Discover Honda

The concept behind Discover Honda is creating a ?march? (marketplace) for Honda content. Just like march? or farmers’ market brings together a wide variety of desirable items ranging from fresh foods to home goods and handmade items, Discover Honda was created with an image of a place where users can encounter articles on diverse themes and perspectives related to Honda.

In addition to its motorcycle, automobile, power products and aviation businesses, Honda is engaging in a wide range of initiatives as a comprehensive mobility company, including the development of cutting-edge space and robotics technologies, environment and safety initiatives, taking on challenges in motorsports, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. By featuring articles that introduce such a wide range of activities, Discover Honda will strive to become a media platform where users can discover a variety of attractive facets of Honda ? just like people finding a variety of attractive items at a marketplace.?

This new content curation media platform was named ?Discover Honda? based on the desire of Honda for more people to visit this media site, explore the diverse activities Honda is involved in, and discover new facets of Honda.? ?

With participation of designers from the Honda Design team, the Discover Honda site was designed with a main color of orange that evokes a vibrant image, freshness, and positive energy of the marketplace. The Discover Honda logo features multiple cubes within the initial letter D, representing diverse themes users can encounter through this platform, and one of the cubes incorporates the Honda Red.?

Why Honda created Discover Honda

Since 2020, as a part of its corporate information website, Honda has been operating ?Honda Stories,? as one of the owned media platforms that communicates the current initiatives and future vision of Honda. It introduces Honda initiatives from the past, present and future, including the underlying thoughts and passions of each initiative, through interviews with Honda associates, executives and other stakeholders.

In addition to Honda Stories, Honda has been communicating a wide range of information through multiple owned media platforms:

?Honda Technology? introduces Honda technologies with more technical insights.?Honda Design? introduces initiatives related to design works?Motorsports? and ?HRC??introduce various Honda initiatives in motorsports?Honda Sports Challenge??introduces various Honda corporate sports activities.

The use of multiple owned media platforms has enabled Honda to present a single theme from multiple perspectives. However, having multiple owned media platforms created a challenge, making it difficult for users to find related articles on the same theme all at once. To address this challenge, Honda launched Discover Honda, a new content curation media platform that enables users to find related articles from multiple Honda owned media while leveraging the unique expertise of each medium.

Initially, Discover Honda will primarily curate content from Honda Stories, Honda Technology, Honda Design, Motorsports, HRC, and Honda Sports Challenge. Moving forward, Honda is planning to expand the range of owned media included in the curation.

Hendrick Motorsports Icon Delivers Powerful Christmas Reminder As NASCAR Still Reels From Greg Biffle Loss

Published

on

This year’s Christmas proved to be a difficult one for NASCAR, owing to the events that transpired last week. With all the legal proceedings settled, it looked like Christmas would be a major celebration this year, but the tragic passing of Greg Biffle and his family proved otherwise. Grief has remained the primary theme ever since, with the Hendrick Motorsports team being among the first ones to react to the news.

While many came forward to share their message of grief, one of the most respected voices in the HMS camp remained mum. Ray Evernham, the Championship-winning crew chief for Jeff Gordon, had opted for the silent path when Biffle passed. But with Christmas festivities in full flow, the HMS icon couldn’t help but lay forth a sobering truth.

HMS Icon Delivers a Gut-Wrenching Truth to NASCAR

Tragedy struck NASCAR last Thursday as news surfaced of the Biffle family passing away in a plane crash alongside three others. The family of four was on its way to Florida to meet up with Garrett Mitchell, aka Cleetus McFarland, but 10 minutes into their flight, the Cessna 550 ran into trouble and couldn’t make it back to the runway safely.

Ever since, the NASCAR world has been struggling to come to terms with reality, with Mark Martin spending considerable time researching the potential reasons behind the plane’s failure.

While all that goes on, Gordon’s former crew chief decided to take to X and leave a few people teary-eyed with what he had to say.

“It’s been a rough week or so, but today is a special day. It’s Christmas, and it’s about family, it’s about being together, it’s about great memories,” said Evernham. He added, “And we don’t know how many Christmases we’re going to get. Some of the Christmases, people who start the year with us won’t be here.”

Speaking further, the iconic crew chief expressed his gratitude for the gift that life is while also being thankful for all of his friends and family, hoping to carry great memories into the new year.

Evernham’s words come just in time for “Biffmas,” an annual initiative started by Biffle that centers around spreading holiday cheer through daily cash giveaways and prizes for fans.

To make this year’s Christmas even more chilling, those close to the Biffle family ended up receiving their Christmas mail from the departed souls during the holidays.

One such incident happened with Ron Herbert of North Carolina, who received the festive season’s greetings from the Biffles in his mailbox. The mail proved to be a harsh reminder of the reality that cannot be escaped, with Evernham’s message further highlighting just how precious life is.

KohR Motorsports to run Greg Biffle tribute livery in IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge at Daytona

Published

on

In the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge next month at Daytona, KohR Motorsports is going to run a Greg Biffle tribute car. The No. 60 Ford Mustang GT4 will have the Biffle family on the hood of the car, along with the names of all of the passengers who died in last week’s tragic plane crash.

This car is special, and a wonderful tribute to the late Greg Biffle, his family, and the three others who died on the plane. Greg, Cristina, Emma, Ryder, Dennis Dutton, Jack Dutton, and Craig Wadsworth will all be honored with their names on this car.

With the racing season around the corner, this is likely the first of many Biffle tributes that we will see in 2026. SportsCar365 showed the livery on social media earlier today.

The NASCAR and racing world have been in mourning in the last week. Such a horrific and tragic accident. Not only a great driver, but a family and three others, all taken too early. There has been an outpouring of memories and stories shared on social media. More will surely come as the new season approaches.

Yesterday, December 23rd, would have been Greg Biffle’s 56th birthday. RFK Racing honored their former driver with a touching tribute video in honor of the somber occasion.

Greg Biffle remembered by many in week since death

Everywhere you look on NASCAR social media, there are tributes and more to Greg Biffle and the victims of the plane crash. Drivers and just regular fans on iRacing have made tribute paint schemes. There have been many touching stories shared.

It is clear that Biffle was more than a driver in NASCAR. He was a friend, a father, and a person who risked his own safety to help those in need countless times. One of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers, and a hero off the track as well. It doesn’t get much better than that.

From his former team to other drivers, fans, and more, the memories of Greg Biffle will help him and his family live on. It has been such a strange week leading into the Christmas holiday. With thoughts and minds still heavy on Biffle, there will surely be a few conversations about the late driver around the tree and table.

IHRA is Brining Memphis International Raceway Back From the Dead! – Drag Bike News

Published

on

Share:

The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) has officially completed the acquisition of the historic motorsports facility in Millington, Tennessee, formerly known as Memphis International Raceway and Memphis Motorsports Park, closing on the property on December 23, 2025.

Memphis International Raceway!

Originally opened in the late 1980s, the facility has played a significant role in American motorsports history. It has hosted major drag racing events and national touring series and was, at one point, sanctioned by IHRA, hosting IHRA-sanctioned drag racing events during that time. With the property now under IHRA ownership, the acquisition represents a full-circle moment that reconnects the track’s past with a renewed vision for its future.

The facility has long contributed to tourism and economic activity in Millington and Shelby County. Under IHRA ownership, it will operate as a multi-use destination supporting drag racing, stock car competition, grassroots motorsports, and other large-scale events that engage the broader community and region.

“This investment honors the legacy of Memphis Motorsports Park while positioning it for a strong future. IHRA’s acquisition reflects confidence in our region and creates new opportunities for tourism, local businesses, and fan experiences.” said Mayor Paul Young, City of Memphis.

“As the Commissioner for District 1, I am thrilled about IHRA’s acquisition of Memphis Motorsports Park. This investment strengthens our local economy, puts world-class racing back on solid ground, and gives our families and young people a safe, exciting place to create memories for years to come. Having a national organization like IHRA committed to the long-term success of this historic facility is exactly the kind of partnership Shelby County needs.” said Amber Mills, Shelby County Commissioner, District 1, Shelby County Government.

“Memphis Motorsports Park has long contributed to tourism and economic activity in Millington and Shelby County, and IHRA’s acquisition represents a positive step forward for the facility and the community. This investment supports the continued use of the track as a regional destination while creating opportunities for local businesses and future growth. The Millington Area Chamber of Commerce looks forward to working with IHRA as this next chapter takes shape.” said Chris Thomas, Executive Director, Millington Area Chamber of Commerce.

“This is a special place in American motorsports,” said Darryl Cuttell, CEO of IHRA. “This facility has a deep history in drag racing and stock car competition, and our goal is to honor that legacy while building a strong, sustainable future. We are committed to bringing meaningful racing back to this property while expanding its role as a destination for a wide range of events that serve racers, fans, and the surrounding community.”

“This acquisition represents more than reopening a racetrack,” said Leah Martin, President of IHRA. “It is about restoring opportunity for racers, families, and the community. This facility aligns with IHRA’s racer-first vision and our commitment to grassroots motorsports, while also allowing the property to support diverse uses that strengthen its year-round impact.”

“Memphis Motorsports Park holds a special place in our hearts,” said Daniel Horton, Assistant Director of the IHRA Stock Car Series. “Bobby Hamilton won the 2004 Craftsman Truck Series race here in a truck built by Tim and with Danny as the crew chief. With the facility now under the IHRA umbrella, we can give grassroots racers a chance to compete where legendary drivers such as Kevin Harvick, Randy LaJoie, and the late Greg Biffle have won. We are extremely excited to bring stock car racing back to Memphis and continue the legacy of this iconic track.”

In the coming days, IHRA will begin facility improvements and operational preparations. Fans and community members are encouraged to follow IHRA across its social media platforms for updates and behind-the-scenes coverage as revitalization efforts get underway. Further announcements regarding schedules and programming will be released in the near future.

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing to Release New GR Brand Video “WILD ROAD” on January 1 | PRESS RELEASE

Published

on

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) announced plans today to release “WILD ROAD”, its new GR brand video, on the TGR YouTube channel on January 1, 2026, at 12:00 a.m. JST.

The starting point of the GR sports car series that debuted in 2017 traces back to Team GAZOO, which was launched in 2007 by Toyota Master Driver Hiromu Naruse and then-Executive Vice President Akio Toyoda (currently chairman of the Board of Directors). With the philosophy of honing people and vehicles through motorsports to make ever-better cars, the team took on and completed the Nürburgring 24 Hours, which is said to be the toughest of all endurance races. Ever since, TGR, which was established in 2015, has continued to pursue the making of ever-better motorsports-bred cars by applying to production vehicle development the knowledge gained and driver feedback from participating in various motorsports, including the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), and Dakar Rally.

In addition to embodying the strong desire of Chairman Toyoda, aka Master Driver Morizo, to further accelerate and pass on the GR brand’s core mission of making ever-better motorsports-bred cars, TGR’s latest brand video takes on the challenge of expressing the “roads make cars” lesson that Master Driver Morizo learned at the Nürburgring. Four race cars—the GR YARIS Rally1 that competed in the WRC*1, the GR010 HYBRID that competed in the WEC*2, the DKR GR Hilux that is to compete in the Dakar Rally*3, and the new FIA GT3-targeted GR GT3*4—highlight the video’s fast action together with the new GR flagship GR GT*5. Production centered on capturing and presenting immersive, actual-speed footage of mesmerizing behind-the-wheel performances by professional drivers in motorsports settings around the world, by driving alongside them as close as possible at high speeds.

Driving duties for the video’s multiple shoots were fulfilled by professional drivers, with Takamoto Katsuta putting the GR YARIS Rally1 through its paces, Kamui Kobayashi handling the GR010 HYBRID, and Akira Miura in charge of the DKR GR Hilux. Professional drivers who also serve as development drivers played a role as well, with Tatsuya Kataoka driving the GR GT3 and Hiroaki Ishiura driving the GR GT. The additional video “WILD ROAD—BEHIND THE SCENES”, which spotlights driving heroics not shown in the new brand video, is also available on the TGR YouTube channel.
