Here at Globe Schools it’s like Christmas Eve as we await the online release of our 2024-25 Winter All-Scholastics on Friday (and in print on Sunday). But before we can unwrap all those accolades, let’s browse through Thursday’s results.

First stop: Scoreboard | Baseball | Softball | Boys’ lacrosse | Girls’ lacrosse | Boys’ volleyball | Girls’ tennis | Boys’ tennis

1. Milestones

Before we get to the 200- and 100-level milestones, let’s start in Stoughton, where freshman goalie Joe Toupin posted the first shutout in program history during a 14-0 win over Bay Path.

Whittier senior Kyle DiCredico scored a goal and handed out six assists to push him over 200 career points while beating Somerville, 16-4. Winchester boys’ volleyball topped Arlington, 3-0, to mark the program’s 200th all-time victory. Franklin junior Sophia Sacramone notched her 200th career strikeout.

Senior Ramona Gillett scored three times for Marblehead in a narrow 14-13 victory over Beverly, including the 100th goal of her career. Norton’s Liana Danubio notched her 100th varsity hit in an 8-3 win over Westwood.

2. Walk-offs

Wilmington softball trailed Lowell Catholic, 4-3, in the bottom of the seventh when Sara Keck ripped a triple to spark a rally. She scored on Sophia Tentindo’s RBI groundout before Charlotte Forcina singled and raced home on an error.

On the girls’ lacrosse field, Whitman-Hanson’s Shannon Balfe netted the overtime winner in a 9-8 victory over Quincy.

3. Three stars

Rebecca Hornung, Southeastern — The senior provided two-way excellence in a 3-2 win over Tri-County, not allowing an earned run while striking out nine in a two-hitter, and supplying an RBI double and a steal of home as the Hawks pushed their winning streak to seven in a row.

Maggie Schlossberg, East Bridgewater — The junior struck out 13, yielding just one earned run on two hits without walking a batter, but her most impressive stats came at the dish, where she collected four hits, including two doubles, and drove in five runs in a 15-2 win over Pembroke.

Michael Wagner and Jayden Pelletier, St. John’s Prep — The senior outside hitters combined for 48 kills, with Wagner providing 26 and Pelletier chipping in with 22 in a 3-1 win over St. John’s (Shrewsbury) in a showdown of top-10 ranked Catholic Conference heavyweights.

4. Going, going, gone

Nobody displayed more power Wednesday than Pentucket freshman Kam Bonneau, who cranked a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, as part of a seven-RBI day in a 15-1 drubbing of Manchester Essex. Panthers teammate Kallie White added her first career blast.

Also leaving the yard was Tyngsborough’s Kiley Hogan and King Philip’s Ali Gill.

He holds a combined high school varsity coaching record of 222-247-33 and has been recognized multiple times as section and state Coach of the Year.

“I am very excited to get back to coaching High School Girls, after spending the last 15 years coaching High School Boys,” Bahr said. “Austin provides the perfect home with great school administrators, first class facilities and a great fan base.  All the ingredients to develop a top-notch program. I can’t wait to get started.”

“Coach Bahr’s experience, passion for the game, and commitment to student-athlete development stood out clearly in our search process,” said Katie Carter, AHS activities director. “He brings a rare combination of deep tactical knowledge, program-building experience, and a genuine heart for mentorship. We are thrilled to welcome him to the Austin Athletics family.”

From 2001–2009, Bahr led the Mayo High School girls’ varsity team to two conference championships and earned five National Academic Team Awards. His tenure with Kasson-Mantorville boys soccer from 2010–2015 saw the program achieve its most successful run in school history, culminating in Bahr being named Minnesota State Coach of the Year in 2015.

Outside of coaching, Bahr served in the Army National Guard as a medical corpsman and has been deeply involved in volunteer work across multiple youth sport boards and community soccer initiatives for more than 30 years.

PARTNERSHIP RECOGNIZED — The partnership between Weir High School and Blue Stream Farms has been recognized as one of eight regional finalists in the inaugural West Virginia School-Business Partnership of the Year Awards. The statewide winner will be announced May 15. — Contributed

WEIRTON — A partnership between a local high school and area organization is one of eight regional finalists in the West Virginia Education Alliance’s inaugural Hope for the Future: West Virginia School-Business Partnership of the Year Awards.

Weir High School’s partnership with Blue Stream Farms will receive a $2,000 grant and compete with the other seven finalists for consideration as State Partnership of the Year, with the award announced at the Education Summit on May 15 featuring an appearance by West Virginia native and actress Jennifer Garner.

The winner will receive an award package valued at $25,000.

Through the partnership, which features Blue Stream Farms’ aquaponics and hydroponics platforms, Weir High students learn about plant biology, while developing entrepreneurial skills including marketing, sales, and financial literacy.

As part of the program, students grew and sold microgreens as part of Birch Creek Farmery’s Market Days in December.

“The Partnership of the Year Award highlights the incredible impact of school-business partnerships on students across West Virginia,” said Amelia Courts, president and CEO of the Education Alliance. “We are thrilled to partner with Hope Gas on this initiative and to congratulate Weir High School for this remarkable recognition.”

Hancock County Schools officials recognized participating students and representatives of Blue Stream Farms during the April 14 meeting of the Hancock County Board of Education.

In addition to Weir High, Region 3 will be represented by the partnership of Warwood Middle School and West Liberty University.

Other finalists include Pocahontas County Schools and Nature’s Mountain Classroom; Mercer County Technical Education Center and Conn-Weld Industries; The WIN Academy and WVU Medicine Thomas Hospitals; Nitro High School and Appalachian Power; Hardy County Schools and Pilgrim’s Pride; and North Elementary School and Black and White Small Business Solution.

The letter of the day is “S,” the number of the day is 100, and the themes from Wednesday’s slate were inside-the-park home runs and no-hitters.

An absolutely packed slate featured more than 250 games in Eastern Mass. and we wrote up more than 110 of them, so find all the highlights, stats, and streaks in our sport-specific roundups: Scoreboard | Baseball | Softball | Boys’ lacrosse | Girls’ lacrosse | Boys’ volleyball | Girls’ tennis | Boys’ tennis

1. Milestones and moments

We declared the number of the day was 100, but we have to start with a 400, as in Whittier boys’ lacrosse senior Conor Walsh, who netted his 400th career point by posting three goals and four assists in a 13-11 win over Triton.

Now on to the 100s. Let’s begin with Seekonk sophomore Evelyn Crane, who netted her 100th career goal in a 20-8 win over Somerset Berkley. See what we meant about the letter ‘S’?

But we’re not done. Sandwich senior Cole Rodgers scored twice, including his 200th varsity goal, in a 13-5 loss to Norwell. Southeastern’s Rebecca Hornung recorded her 100th career strikeout by sitting down 14 batters in a 12-6 win over Blue Hills. Weymouth’s Jill Ondrick also recorded her 100th strikeout, but hers was of the season (43 innings), as she fanned 15 Framingham batters.

Franklin senior Sarah Boozang recorded her 100th hit against Milford.

Before we go on to the walk-off winners, there were a couple of significant results Wednesday that need mentioning. Latin Academy handed English High baseball a 4-3 defeat, marking English’s first Boston City League loss since 2022.

The top-ranked St. John’s (Shrewsbury) baseball team fell, 4-3, to a Catholic Memorial team that improved to 3-7 behind big offensive showings from Liam McKinney and Carson McCarthy.

Over at St. John Paul II, Logan Our (3 innings, 6 strikeouts) and Colin Buckley (2 innings, 3 Ks) combined for a five-inning no-hitter in a 19-0 demolition of Sturgis West.

2. Walk-off wins

It wasn’t a big day for sudden victories, but there were a few worth noting: Caine Allen hit into the walk-off error that scored Preston George and gave Whitman-Hanson a 4-3 victory over Silver Lake, Isabella Briones singled home Macy Ingraham from second in the eighth inning during a 2-1 Millis victory over Dedham, and Logan Shannon netted the overtime winner for Norton boys’ lacrosse in a 10-9 win over Dedham.

3. Five stars

There were too many impressive performances to limit our star count to three, so we’re expanding.

Tessa Francis, Marblehead — Her second no-hitter of the season featured a whopping 19 strikeouts among the 23 batters she faced during a 4-0 win over Salem.

Jackie Giordano, Brooks — The senior from Andover was an error away from a perfect game, striking out 16 while allowing no hits or walks to beat Lawrence Academy, 1-0.

Cate Larson, Taunton — Stepping up as the top-ranked Tigers’ ace this season, Larson fired her first no-hitter to silence No. 2 King Philip, 4-0. Larson struck out 13 in a rematch of last year’s Division 1 title game.

Jordan O’Malley, Salem — The 6-foot-3-inch senior righthander tossed six one-hit innings, striking out six, and added three hits and three RBIs in a 14-0 win over Marblehead.

Luke Rogan, Mansfield — The Nichols-bound senior could have been listed under the walk-offs, as he single in the bottom of the seventh finished a 4-3 Hockomock win over Foxborough. But Rogan did so much more, allowing just one earned run in six innings with seven strikeouts and collecting two hits, including a double.

Speaking of Mansfield, one of the most impressive web gems of the season came from Hornets second baseman Brendan Vokey, who dove to his right to knock down a sharply hit ball, then flipped it to second for the force out.

4. Going, going, gone

Did we mention the inside-the-park home run theme? It starts with Dennis-Yarmouth sophomore Brooke Chicoine, who laced a pair of four-baggers that didn’t leave the park, accounting for eight RBIs in a 26-19 loss to Falmouth. Braintree’s Kate Fosco and Medway’s Katie Anderson also skedaddled around the bases for inside-the-parkers.

Olivia Guarino put on her own power display, blasting a pair of home runs in Peabody’s 14-run fourth inning during a 23-4 destruction of Winthrop. Lizzy Bettencourt and MacKenzie Landry both homered for the Tanners.

Hopkinton’s Caroline Ozmun launched a pair of blasts, including a grand slam, in a 12-0 win over Medfield, and teammate Holly Paharik added a shot of her own. Swampscott’s Caden Ross also delivered a grand slam, and King Philip’s Aniyah Bailey christened Taunton’s updated Jack Tripp park with a first-inning three-run homer to beat the Tigers in a battle of the top two teams in the state.

The rest of the day’s longballs belonged to Bishop Feehan’s Olivia Abren, Apponequet’s Brianna Fontes, St. John’s Prep’s Will Shaheen, Braintree’s Lexi Donahue, Wilmington’s Eva LaClair, Holliston’s Ben Maiorano, Beverly’s Elsa Reulet, Lynnfield’s Angelina O’Hara and Morgan Hubbard, and Brooks’s Shayne King.
