Each hole is worth one point. If the teams are tied at the end of regulation, the match will proceed to overtime. During overtime, players compete head-to-head, and the team that lands their shot closest to the pin will be declared the winner. — Elizabeth Flores“Additionally, the gap between Schauffele and Aberg is slim, and Aberg and Clark just topped both Schauffele and Fitzpatrick in the Sentry. I also like the collected ball-striking prowess of the Bay Golf Club more over the past year.”In the “singles” phase of the competition, each golfer will go head-to-head with a player from the opposing team throughout the final six holes. Here’s the matchups:New York GC entered hole No. 9 scoreless, but they had a little luck on their side. Fitzpatrick hit a chip shot that looked like it was going to end up in the rough, but the ball bounced back toward the green and ended up mere feet from the hole. New York GC picked up their first point and trail Bay Golf Club 6-1.

Two strokes. That’s all the Bay Golf Club needed to win hole No. 5 (Par-3, 179 yards). New York GC was closing in on its first point, but Åberg nailed a 32-foot putt to birdie the hole. Bay Golf Club now leads 5-0. 

Hole No. 9: New York GC finally on the board

“With alternate shot playing a significant role in the outcome of matches, I’d much rather bet a team with depth than one that’s top-heavy.”

We have our first hammer! Wyndham Clark of Bay Golf Club threw a yellow hammer flag on hole No. 3 (Par-3, 188 yards) ahead of his putt, instantly doubling the value of the hole. No pressure, right? Although the stakes were high, Clark knocked down a seven-foot putt to give Bay Golf Club not one, but two points for an early 3-0 lead over New York GC.

Both teams had an opportunity to take hole No. 8 (Par-4, 528-yard). Lowry of Bay Golf Club missed a 16-foot putt for birdie, while Fowler of New York GC narrowly missed a 16-foot chip shot for birdie. Both teams conceded the putt on the next stroke to tie the hole.The Bay Golf Club is rolling. The team, comprised of Shane Lowry, Wyndham Clark and Ludvig Åberg, picked up their fourth-straight point on hole No. 4 — a Par-5, 582-yard hole named “Boomerang.” Lowry drained a four-foot putt to win the hole. GULF SHORES, Ala. – Cal Poly beach volleyball took down No. 11 seed LSU in the first round of the NCAA Championship by a score of 3-0 to move on to Saturday’s Quarterfinals.

The No. 6 seed Mustangs (30-7), won the first sets at all five courts to start the match. Cal Poly’s No. 4 pair of Ella Connor and Madi Nichols were then the first to finish their match, winning 22-20, 21-14.

A short time later, they were followed by the No. 5 pair of Abbey Reinard and Elise Lenahan also getting a win in straight sets, 26-24, 21-10. The dual was then clinched by the No. 3 pair of Quinn Perry and Lindsey Sparks in two sets, 24-22, 21-19.

The victory now sets up a meeting in the NCAA Championship Quarterfinals with No. 3 seed Stanford Saturday at 9 a.m. PT/11 a.m. CT. The match will be aired live on ESPN2 and ESPN+.

NC men’s volleyball championship history

The NC men’s volleyball national championship dates back to 1970, skipping 2020 due to COVID-19. The first-ever championship trophy went to UCLA. LONG BEACH, Calif. – Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah earned their third Top Flight award for their efforts at the first flight. Megan Widener and Demi Wagdy won for their outstanding season at the fifth flight as the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced the recipients.

Gementera and Hagenah were one of the best first flight duos in the nation with a 33-4 record. The duo has never dropped more than nine matches in a season, with their junior campaign being no exception.

Megan Widener and Demi Wagdy have had success as a duo this season, most notably at the fifth flight. They went on a 12-win streak mid-season, taking down pairs from LMU and Hawaii. They also were named Big West Pair of the Week after going 4-0 during the Death Volley Invitational. Widener and Wagdy continued to find success even after being moved up to the third flight for the Big West conference tournament. Their win at the third flight was the dual clinching point to earn the Beach another Big West Championship.

The Top Flight program, now in its seventh year, recognizes beach pairs who compete in at least 15 matches together at a specific flight and win at least 75% of their matches. This year, 88 pairs representing 45 schools—from all three NCAA divisions, NAIA, and Two-Year Colleges—have earned Top Flight status.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Cal State Bakersfield’s beach volleyball program celebrated a standout season as senior Ella Erteltova and sophomore Vivi Kaelin were named to the All-Big West First Team, while sophomore Ella Ensign earned Honorable Mention recognition.?

Erteltova and Kaelin, who compiled an 18-6 record primarily at the No. 2 position, elevated from second-team selections in 2024 to first-team honorees this year. Their consistent performance included a pivotal straight-set victory over Hawai‘i’s top pair during the Big West Championship. 

Ensign, a sophomore from University Place, Wash., contributed significantly to CSUB’s postseason success, including a decisive three-set win alongside partner Katey Milne to clinch a 3-2 upset over Hawai‘i. 

These accolades underscore the Roadrunners’ growing presence in the Big West Conference and highlight the program’s upward trajectory.

Arts Orange County to Honor Jorg Dubin at 25th OC Arts Awards

Laguna Beach Artist Jorg Dubin will be honored for his contributions to the Orange County Arts scene this September at the 25th OC Arts Awards.




A Helena Modjeska Cultural Legacy Award will be awarded to Laguna Beach artist Jorg Dubin for his lifetime achievement. Dubin has been an integral figure in Orange County’s artistic landscape for over five decades, maintaining a prolific career as a painter, sculptor, and mentor, and contributing to its cultural fabric through his multidisciplinary practice and dedication to fostering emerging talent. Arts Orange County will gather on Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the Samueli Theater at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, to honor its stars at the 25th Orange County Arts Awards. Laguna Beach Tomato-Fest Seedling Sale and Fundraiser

LBBC May Speaker: Mayor Alex Rounaghi

Laguna Beach Library Hosts a Fun-Filled Earth Day Celebration

The Laguna Beach Library welcomed families and community members on Saturday, April 26 for a lively Earth Day Celebration filled with fun, learning, and environmental appreciation. The event featured an engaging story time, a composting workshop, face painting, Fairy Garden crafts and colorful rock painting. Different activities offered children a hands-on way to connect with nature, express their creativity, and learn about caring for the Earth. The celebration perfectly balanced learning and play, leaving kids and adults with big smiles and a renewed appreciation for the library and the planet. The Friends of the Laguna Beach Library would like to thank the library staff, volunteers, and everyone who came out to help make the event such a wonderful and welcoming day for local families. Community Rallies Behind Beloved Water Polo Coach

A cornerstone of the Laguna Beach community was injured after being hit by a car while walking his two dogs. When the incident occurred, coach Chad Beeler was walking Penny and Kona on April 21. He sustained multiple injuries, including a broken clavicle. Sadly, his dog, Penny, was killed in the accident. 

“Chad has been a cornerstone of the Laguna Beach community for over 30 years. He’s taught, coached, and mentored generations of local kids—as a longtime Laguna Beach lifeguard, head of the Junior Lifeguard Program, coach for many LBHS water polo teams, director of Laguna Beach Water Polo Club, and the heart behind countless summer beach camps for our littlest locals,” his GoFundMe reads. “If you know Coach Chad, you know how much those dogs mean to him—they were always by his side, often making appearances on the pool deck and bringing smiles to all the young swimmers.”

Trent Harradine knocked in two runs for the Giants (18-3-1, 9-0) in the league victory on Tuesday, April 29.

Mason Bloom had the go-ahead RBI in the Trevians’ comeback victory on Tuesday, April 29.
