“Coach Hurst exemplifies the Warrior Spirit, and his impressive resume speaks for itself,” said Athletic Director Jenny Lauderdale. “Our athletes will benefit greatly from his knowledge, leadership, and dedication to their growth on and off the field.”
In addition to his achievements on the field, Hurst has demonstrated success in player development through his organization, Prime 9 Baseball/The Alabama Baseball Club. Over the past three years, more than 30 of his players have signed college scholarships.
Hurst’s Brookwood journey began in third grade as a waterboy and manager for Warrior Football. As a student-athlete, he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball before graduating in 2000. His collegiate career included playing baseball at Jacksonville University and Georgia Southern University before signing with the Boston Red Sox. He spent five years in minor and independent leagues before transitioning into coaching. Hurst’s coaching career is distinguished by his work with the Tampa Bay Rays organization, where he trained hundreds of MLB players. He also has extensive experience in independent schools, serving as head baseball and football coach at Fullington Academy and as head football coach at Northside Methodist Academy.
“Jason’s passion for athletics, deep ties to Brookwood, and remarkable career as both a player and coach make him an invaluable addition to our school,” said Dr. Randy Watts, Brookwood Headmaster. “We are thrilled to welcome him home and look forward to the impact he will have on our students and athletic programs.”
