AMES, Iowa – The Brown gymnastics team scored 190.300 in their season-opening meet on Friday evening at Iowa State marking the third consecutive season that Brown eclipsed the 190-point mark in their season opener.
 
This marks just the second time in program history the Bears have scored over 190 points in three straight season-openers, joining the 2013-2015 squads.
 
Overall, host Iowa State took home first place with a team score of 195.100, followed by Iowa with 194.575 and the Bears in third. Brown’s score of 48.550 on beam was the highest of the meet.
 
Brown opened up on bars with a 47.100, led in fourth place by junior Liza Marcus at 9.750 and senior Maya Davis who tied for fifth at 9.700.
 
Next on beam, the Bears put up their best score of the meet at 48.550 to lead all teams, led by sophomore Emily Ford tallying a 9.800 to place seventh overall. Sophomores Lindsay Van Eyk and Lindsey Yang both scored 9.725, tying for ninth.
 
On floor, the back end of the Bears’ lineup led the way with senior Julia Bedell and Yang both tying for fourth overall at 9.750. Freshman Avery Walters scored a strong 9.700 to place eighth overall. The team combined for a score of 47.075 on the event.
 
Rounding out the meet on vault, Brown put up 47.575 with Bedell leading the way on the podium in third place with a 9.825 and junior Sophia Dewar tying for ninth at 9.750.
 
Brown will return to action next Saturday at Southern Connecticut State for a quad meet against the Owls, Bridgeport and Springfield.
