“You want to make sure that, you are checking your credit card regularly to make sure that there’s not something popping up on there,” said The Michigan Attorney General, Dana Nessel. “And make sure that whatever you have linked up, that you’re using to pay for anything associated with a QR code that it goes to a credit card and that directly to your bank account, because then they can just take everything in your bank account, you want to be able to contest it if there’s an erroneous charge on there. Here are a couple of extra tips you can do to protect yourself: download a QR code scanner app. This can help recognize if the code is fake or not. After you scan the code, look on the site for bad grammar. This usually means it is not a legitimate site.Once scanned, these codes direct victims to phishing websites where they can steal personal or financial information.
