Crispus Attucks athletic director Chris Hawkins expressed “extreme disappointment” with the 115-5 final of Saturday’s girls basketball game vs. Washington, and said they have “handled the situation internally” with coach Kamaren Banks and his staff.

Follow Brian Haenchen on Twitter at @Brian_Haenchen.Attucks, which led 38-2 after a quarter and 73-3 at halftime, ran its trap defense and high-tempo offense for almost the entire 32 minutes, and was attempting 3-pointers late in regulation. A number of key varsity players also started the fourth quarter.100-0? ‘We did show mercy.’South Bend Washington ‘could’ve scored 300.’

Hawkins is head coach of the Attucks boys basketball team and was informed of what transpired following their game at Gary 21st Century. He is unsure what, if any, steps were taken during the game beyond the standard running clock for the second half.Hawkins has spoken with Washington’s principal, athletic director and assistant AD, and said “there will be something” with the teams and players, adding: “We’re going to handle it and do it the right way.”

Kamrah Banks, a high-Division I prospect, accounted for nearly all of her team’s first-half field goal attempts and scored a school-record 63 points in just 16 minutes of play (set the record with a 3-pointer in the final seconds of the second quarter). Banks did not play in the second half.”(The) situation never should have been like that,” he added. “It’s not something we promote for our district nor here at Crispus Attucks. We take sportsmanship seriously. … You don’t do that to a sister school. Hopefully, (our coaches) learn from it and then we move forward.”

Hawkins said he’s informed IHSAA commissioner Paul Neidig and assistant commissioner Chris Kaufman what Attucks has done to “take care of the situation.”

Attucks (5-9) is rated 32nd in the 3A Sagarin Ratings and was averaging around 51 points per game entering Saturday. Washington (4-9) is rated last in 3A and 392nd overall. It has scored fewer than 20 points in eight games and fewer than 10 points in four, including a 64-9 loss to Purdue Poly Englewood in the City tournament Monday. Both are members of the Capital City Conference.Hawkins declined to share specifics of those conversations or confirm if any disciplinary action was taken, but said they have “let it be known there’s extreme disappointment in what happened” and that “the message has been sent.”Asked to elaborate on those plans, Hawkins said they’re keeping it in house, but reiterated they’re taking the situation seriously. The IHSAA confirmed Monday it had reviewed film of the incident and communicated with both schools. Any discipline would come from the individual school and not the activities association.
