WACO, Texas —Oklahoma State’s fourth-ranked equestrian team defeated No. 10 Baylor, 13-7, at Willis Family Equestrian Center on Saturday.
With the win, the Cowgirls improved to 6-3 on the year and 2-2 in Big 12 competition, while the Bears fell to 2-6 and 1-4 in the Big 12. For OSU, the victory extends its winning streak against the Bears to 14. For head coach Larry Sanchez, it’s his 39th win against Baylor, the most wins he has against any team in the NCEA.
Riley Hogan secured two MOPs in Fences and Flat. This is the second time she has won multiple MOPs in a meet this season and marks her sixth and seventh awards of her senior season.
The meet began with Fences, followed by Reining.
The Fences squad lost the team advantage 3-2. Riley Hogan picked up her team-high eighth win this season, continuing to add to her program record in wins for the event. The other point came from freshman Emma Hechtman, defeating Lauren Reid, 81.5-78.5. The win marks Hechtman’s second win of her career. Gable Gering, Bella Holway and Mackenzie Carreras lost their respective rides.
The Reining team dominated Baylor, claiming four of the five available points. It’s the second time this season earning four or more wins in the event.
Abby Budd scored the first point for the Cowgirls with an event-high 71.25. Budd is now 7-2 and extended her winning streak to four. Tristan Bagby followed with a win over Ryan Jensen, 70.75-69.25. Emma Filiatreau continued her great season, defeating Emily Moomaw, 71.5-70.75. Filiatreau holds a record of 7-2 this season and is on a five-ride win streak. Her performance earned her the fourth MOP honor of her career. The event rounded out with Quincee Clark scoring a 70.25 against Baylor’s Kalena Reynolds to secure OSU’s fourth point. The lone Baylor point came from Sadie Peters, defeating Ava Bush, 69.25-65.75.
After a short intermission, the meet concluded with Horsemanship and Flat simultaneously.
The OSU Horsemanship team won the team advantage, 3-2, marking the eighth time the Horsemanship group has won the advantage this season. Bella D’Onofrio opened the scoring in the event, defeating Taylor Smith, 72.5-72.25. Alana Stanton reached a new season high with a 75 score, bringing home another point for the Cowgirls. June Roberson continued her amazing season with her sixth straight win, defeating Nadalee Vasquez by a margin of 7.75 points.
Claire McDowall suffered her third loss of the season, this time to Anna Thron by a score of 73.75-73.5. Peyton Baxter was also defeated by Alexis Rutledge, snapping her two-ride win streak.
In Flat, four Cowgirls picked up wins. This is the third time the Flat team has scored at least four points. Caroline Mirts and Bella Holway picked up back-to-back wins to start the event. Hogan followed with an event-high 83.5, giving her another MOP in the meet. The final point for OSU came from Hannah Dodd, defeating Caroline Robelen, 71-0. Gable Gering fell short to Baylor’s Lauren Stebbins, 81.5-76.
The Cowgirls return to action next Friday when they host No. 2 TCU at 1 p.m. at the Pedigo-Hull Equestrian Center.
