In the mile event in at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational, the pairing of Alexandra Wercinski and Compton went 4-5 with top 10 program times in a field of 36 competitors. Wercinski paced the Mids with a time of 4:48.23, which marks the seventh fastest time in school history. Compton was .08 seconds behind Wercinski with the eighth best time of 4:48.31.

Nathan Kent had a big weekend at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational winning the 200m and 400m events with top 10 times. The Rocklin, Calif., native ran the third fastest time in Navy history in the 200m with a time of 21.03 and his 400m time of 47.29 was best for ninth in program history.

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Navy track and field team concluded competition at the at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex in Lynchburg, Va. Nine athletes also competed at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass. The weekend was highlighted by 11 top 10 performances, including two school records.

The men’s 4x400m relay team of Jacques Guillaume, Jay Evans, Pete deJonge and Kent added on to the big weekend with the ninth fastest time of 3:13.35 to win the event.

“Overall, we had a pretty solid day,” Director of Navy Track and Field Jamie Cook said after the meet. “Sophie Compton was impressive today, she broke the school record in the 3,000m by four seconds, that was a significant accomplishment. Murphy Smith along with three other guys set four of the top 10 times in the 5,000m in Boston on Friday was a huge thing on the men’s side, that was an awesome performance.”

The Mids will compete in the Navy Select next Friday for their final tune-up before the Patriot League Indoor Championship. The meet will start at 10 a.m. at the Wesley A. Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md.

The weekend was highlighted with school records set by Murphy Smith in the 5,000m and Sophie Compton in the 3,000m. At the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, Smith broke his own record by 10 seconds with a time of 13:45.12. Along with Smith, three other student-athletes posted top 10 record times. Junior Justin Mumford clocked the second fastest-time of 13:49.01, senior Alexander Kirkland recorded the third best 5,000m time of 13:52.33 and junior Jackson Nguyen rounded out the group with the ninth-fastest time of 14:03.59.

Followed by Compton was Olivia Lutkevich who wrote her name in the records book in the 3,000m with a time of 9:38.12, which is the ninth fastest time in program history, to place seventh in a field of 32 athletes.

Compton won the 3,000m event at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational with a program record setting time of 9:25.15. The San Diego, Calif., native owns three of the 10 programs fastest 3,000m times.
