Women’s Water Polo traveled to Providence, R.I., for the CWPA Championships starting last Friday night. As the fifth–seed, they opened up against the fourth-seeded Brown team. 

For both teams, it all came down to defensive efforts, making it difficult for either team to score. Bella Schraa ʼ26 and Gwen Kallmeyer ʼ26 scored the first two goals of the game. Brown matched those two goals before the end of the first quarter. They then took the lead early in the second period. Olivia Hopper ʼ28 tied up the game as time wound down in the first half. Brown found the back of the net one more time as the teams entered the halftime break. 

The Bison broke the tie after the half. Hopper scored two goals, but Brown responded with the tying goal. The score stood at 5-5 as the teams entered the final quarter.

Hopper’s hot hand scored once again to put the Orange and Blue up 6-5. It all came down to defense as the Bison held Brown from scoring the rest of the game. Tamara Torkos ʼ27 blocked two strong attempts from the Bears in the final 10 seconds. 

After taking down Brown, the Bison faced the number one seed, Princeton, the following afternoon. The Tigers jumped to a 6-0 lead quickly in the first quarter. Princeton’s defense prevented the Bison from getting any easy look on goal. Schraa broke the scoring drought in the second quarter. Princeton responded with four more goals and established a 10-1 lead heading into the half. 

Scoring continued for the Tigers in the third quarter as they tallied four more, making it harder for the Bison to catch up. The Orange and Blue’s efforts did not stop. Ashley Hopper ʼ28 scored once in the final quarter, as did Regan Coon ʼ27 and Rhys Beutler ʼ28. The game ended 17-4 in favor of Princeton. 

In the final game of the weekend, the Bison faced third-seeded Michigan. The Wolverines put up four goals in the first period. Hayden Hedstrom ʼ28 scored the Bison’s first goal. O. Hopper scored her first goal in the second period, but Michigan put up two more to push the lead further. O. Hopper got hot in the third quarter and went on a 3-0 scoring run in under two minutes. With the score at 7-5, both teams’ defenses carried them the rest of the way in the third stanza. 

In the final period of the game, the Bison got within one goal after O. Hopper scored once again. Michigan countered with a 5-0 run, widening the score gap. O. Hopper found the back of the net two more times before the game ended but was unable to cut the deficit further. Michigan came out on top with an 8-14 win. 

This series of games marked the end of the Bison Women’s Water Polo season.

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton track & field teams travel to the America East Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be hosted by New Hampshire and run Saturday-Sunday. All nine conference programs will be competing in the meet.

The Bearcats have four defending individual champions competing this weekend. They include graduate student Marcus Johnson (400 hurdles), fellow graduate student Josh Stone (5,000) and sophomore Matthew Oluwole (high jump) on the men’s side as well as senior Jennifer Mui (3,000 SC) on the women’s squad.

Johnson and redshirt sophomore Brian Luciano are already locked in to the NCAA East Region Meet, which takes place later in the month. Lucinao is ranked No. 19 in the hammer (213-5) while Johnson is No. 18 in the men’s 400 hurdles (50.82). Both of them have been named America East Performers of the Week twice this season.

In addition, five Bearcats competing this weekend won individual events at the America East Indoor Championships back in February. They include Johnson (triple jump), Stone (5,000), Luciano (weight throw) and senior Joe Cardascia (500) on the men’s side as well as junior Alyssa Armitage (pole vault) on the women’s side.

At last year’s America East Outdoor Championships, the Bearcat women were the runner up for the second year in the row while the men took sixth place. During the recent indoor season, Binghamton was third on the women’s side while the men finished in fifth place.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams will head to Rochester Institute of Technology for the 2025 Liberty League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted at the RIT Track & Field Complex on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3.

On the men’s side, junior Jason Bois looks to defend his conference title in the 110-meter hurdles and enters the championships ranked third in the Liberty League with a top time of 15.02 seconds at the Trinity Invitational. Senior Sam Ahern seeks his first outdoor title after finishing second in the 100-meter dash and third in the 200-meter dash last year; he currently ranks third in the conference in the 100 after a top mark of 10.80 seconds at William & Mary in March, and also enters the weekend fifth in the 200 after a program-record time of 21.58 seconds at Trinity. Juniors Mason Lang and Nick Entner look to be the team’s top threats for All-Conference recognition in the field events, with Lang ranked third in the shot put (14.06 meters at Trinity) and Entner also third in the javelin throw (55.58 meters at RPI).

Other Garnet Chargers vying for All-Conference honors will be sophomore Nate Okwaning, who sits sixth in the conference in the 100 thanks to a season-best 10.87-second finish last weekend at RPI, and senior Ben Neff, who  is sixth in the 1500 meters after finishing in 3:53.13 at RPI.

For the women, sophomore Ashley Sheldon looks for a repeat performance in the high jump after winning the conference title outdoors as a first-year, as she enters the weekend with the third-best mark in the conference at 1.57 meters. First-year Kyleigh Record is also seeded third in the 800 meters after her 2:16.25 finish at Trinity, the second-fastest mark in program history.

In the sprints, senior Gabby Baker is seeded sixth in the 400-meter dash thanks to a time of 59.09 seconds at Trinity. First-year Lauryn Johnson is the top seed in the throwing events for the women after her mark of 34.37 meters in the javelin placed her sixth on the conference ledger. Junior Grace Ardito also will look to reach the podium as well in the high jump, entering the weekend with a top mark of 1.51 meters that ranks fourth among conference competitors.

NASHVILLE – The University of Evansville track and field team will look to take down more program records over the weekend at the Outdoor Music City Challenge.

The Purple Aces will go to Nashville for the first time during the outdoor season over the weekend for the Outdoor Music City Challenge meet hosted by Vanderbilt. UE had a small group participate in the Indoor Music City Challenge back in February. Evansville will bring its full team to the outdoor season version of the meet on Friday and Saturday.

The meet that begins the month of May is being held at the Vanderbilt Outdoor Track Complex and will feature 25 college teams along with a state track club. The Aces will compete against 17 other Division I teams including fellow Missouri Valley Conference opponents Belmont and Murray State. The other Division I teams competing in Nashville include Alabama A&M, Austin Peay, Central Arkansas, Furman, Jacksonville State, Lindenwood, Lipscomb, MTSU, SIUE, Tennessee, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, UT-Martin, Vanderbilt, and Xavier.

At UE’s last meet, Evansville set three new program records with two on the women’s side and one on the men’s side. Sophomore Taylor Johnson (Evansville, Ind. / Reitz HS) reset the 400-meter record by more than two tenths of a second along with her 200-meter record at the 2025 Gibson Invitational. The men’s 4×400 relay team also set a record with the team of freshman Myles Terry (Evansville, Ind. / North HS), sophomores Connor Shin (Bloomington, Ind. / Bloomington North HS), Raymond Felton III (Houston / Clear Brook HS), and Cedrik Flipo (Beloeil, Quebec) with a time of 3:18.93. The relay team broke a record that was set over 40 years ago back in 1979.

The Outdoor Music Challenge begins on Friday morning at 10 a.m. with field events while the track events begin at 5 p.m. On Saturday field events again begin at 10 a.m. while track events begin at 1:30 p.m. Aces fans can follow along with this weekend’s meet through live timing.

The Hope College women’s track and field team picked up one medal and recorded two of the top qualifying efforts during Day 1 of the MIAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday at Alma College.

Juniors Catherine Leahy (200 meters) and junior Sara Schermerhorn (400 meters) delivered the best performances for the Flying Dutch while qualifying for the finals on Friday, May 2.

Competition begins at noon with field events. Running finals are scheduled to start at 4:15 p.m.

In the shot put, senior Greta Robrahn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) earned a bronze medal with a third-place toss of 12.75 meters (41 feet, 10 inches).

Two more of Robrahn’s teammates scored in the event: Kamryn Bice (Monroe, Michigan / Monroe) in sixth at 11.58 meters (38-0) and Karly Roelofs (Kingsley, Michigan / Kingsley Area) in eighth at 11.10 meters (36-5).

In the 3,000-meter run, senior Maddy Struck (Hainesville, Illinois / Grayslake Central) placed fourth at 11:27.17. Sophomore Annika Sytsma (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Christian) took fifth after a PR 11:35.11.

Hope is in third place after Day 1 with 27 points. Cavin University leads the seven-team pack with 108 points. Trine University is third with 71.

In the 10,000-meter run, junior Alexis Deighan (Birmingham, Michigan / Seaholm) finished sixth after recording a PR time of 38:56.65.

In the hammer throw, junior Sophia Raymond (Woodstock, Illinois / Woodstock) posted a sixth-place throw of 40.57 meters (133-1).

In the pole vault, sophomore Abigail Cumings (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) cleared 2.85 meters (9-4 ¼) for seventh place.

During qualifying, the Flying Dutch clocked three of the fastest four qualifying times in the 200-meter run.

Leahy (Elk Rapids, Michigan / Elk Rapids) finished first with a PR run of 44.83 and was followed by Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West) in third at 25.81 and freshman Sofia Fisher (Lombard, Illinois / Montini Catholic) in fourth at 26.09.

Leahy’s time ranked 44th in NCAA Division III this season.

In the 400-meter run, Hope swept the top two spots in qualifying and advanced two more runners to the final.

Schermerhorn led the effort at 56.71 points and was followed in second by Leahy at 57.74.

Junior Frances Cozzens (Lyman, New Hampshire / Saint Johnsbury Academy) finished fifth at 59.94. Senior Jasmine Zimmerman (Byron Center, Michigan / Home School) was sixth with a PR 1:00.03.

In the 400-meter hurdles, three Hope runners qualified. Junior Molly Durow (Glenview, Illinois / Glenbrook South) posted the second-fastest run during prelims at 1:07.15 and was followed by junior Elliana Johnson (East Lansing, Michigan / Haslett) in fifth after a PR 1:07.96 and Lauren Newens (Sterling Heights, Michigan / Adlai Stevenson) in seventh after a PR 1:10.10.

In the 800-meter run, three Flying Dutch reached the final: Durow in third at 2:18.63, senior Noel Vanderbilt (Saugatuck, Michigan / Home School) in fourth with a PR 2:18.19 and sophomore Amanda Markham (Hoffman Estates, Illinois / William Fremd) in fifth at a season-best 2:19.59.

In the 100-meter run, junior Ava Schmidt (Saline, Michigan / Saline) took eighth during prelims by posting a time of 13.01.
