COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – The Covington Middle School boys soccer team faced a tough challenge against Breckinridge on Monday evening, resulting in a 9-1 loss. Despite the lopsided score, there were notable highlights for the Cougar squad. Goalkeeper Lucas Tidd-Whiting put in a valiant effort between the posts, making an impressive 12 saves throughout the match. His performance kept Covington in the game longer than the final score might suggest. Covington’s lone goal came from Isaiah Humphries, who found the back of the net with an assist from teammate Eliot Chung. This goal marked the opening score of the game, giving Covington an early lead before Breckinridge mounted their comeback. Coach Lehman’s team will look to regroup and build on the positive aspects of their performance in their upcoming matches. The determination shown by Tidd-Whiting in goal and the offensive connection between Humphries and Chung provide promising signs for future games. Covington Middle will be back in action on Wednesday when they host James Madison Middle, at the Jackson River Sports Complex. The match is set to start at 5:30.
