COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Gustavus track & field kicked off its outdoor season Friday at the CSB/SJU Optimistic Open with a small contingent of competitors. Wyatt Hudspith had to top performance for the men, taking third place in the discus with a personal best throw of 148-02. Turner Thompson took sixth in the high jump with a leap of 6-0.75, while Sam Schulze took sixth in the 400-hurdles with a time of 59.17. The men had three compete in the pole vault, led by Logan Marzinske clearing 12-7.25 for 14th place. Gustavus competes next Saturday at the Luther College Norse Invite in Decorah, Iowa.
On the women’s side, Maddox Lee ran the 100-hurdles in 18.58 for 17th place and cleared 9-9 in the pole vault for 10th place. Kayla Kajer cleared 4-11.0 in the high jump for sixth place. Emily Podulke ran the 400-hurdles in 1:11.64, finishing in seventh.
