CHARLESTON, Ill. –

The Eastern Illinois Track and Field team wrapped up the EIU Big Blue Classic at O’Brien Field with 16 first place finishes over the course of the two day meet.

Day One
Friday’s session headlined seven first-place finishes for the Panthers. Jacob Maxwell and Alex Stout kicked off the morning for the throwers, as Maxwell finished first in the hammer throw with a distance of 48.65m. Additionally, Stout reached a distance of 15.74m in the shot-put to also earn a first-place finish.

Isabella Fabrizio notched a clean sweep in the shot put and the hammer throw, securing a gold medal in each event. She recorded a distance of 13.20m in the shot put on top of her toss of 46.93m in the hammer throw.

Abe Johnson and Taryn Tarquin followed shortly after in the triple jump, dominating the sand pit for EIU. Johnson’s mark of 14.89m and Tarquin’s jump of 11.88m earned them both the top spot on the podium.

Day Two
Saturday featured a larger slate of events, as nine more Panther athletes were able to finish first in their respective events.

Emily Sykes kicked off the women’s javelin throw with a distance of 33.10m to claim first place as Sam Bradbury and Gracie Cox went on to dominate in the discus. Bradbury recorded a toss of 43.43m, while Cox reached a distance of 40.18m.

Abby Venhaus manufactured a ton of success on day two, securing first-place finishes in both the long jump (5.51m) and the 100m dash (12.06). Daniel Lacy was the other Panther sprinter to finish first in the 100m dash after racing a time of 10.64.

Hallee Thomas and Nathan Kirby dominated the 100m and 110m hurdles as they both finished in the top spot. Thomas earned a time of 14.83 in the 100mH as Kirby crossed the finish line in 15.27 in the 110mH.

Abe Johnson recorded his second first-place finish in two days after reaching a height of 1.95m in the high jump. Kenyetietta Quinn also controlled the high jump leaderboard, finishing first after recording a mark of 1.60m

The Panthers are set to travel north to Illinois State to compete in the Normal Invite on April 11-12.
