Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 2 (ANI): Gokul V Subramaniam, President of Intel India and Vice President of the Client Computing Group, showcased Intel’s expanding role in India’s content and innovation ecosystem during the Waves Summit 2025 in Mumbai.

Speaking to ANI, Subramaniam emphasized Intel’s commitment to powering India’s growing media, gaming, and educational sectors through cutting-edge AI and processing technologies.

“Waves is an amazing opportunity, especially for content creators working in audio and video. At the core of all this is data — and data is what Intel is all about,” he said.

“We are working across multiple aspects of computing — from data centers to AI-enabled personal devices — to enable content creation at every level, from large media conglomerates to individual YouTubers.”

Subramaniam explained how Intel’s advanced processors and AI accelerators are helping streamline content workflows.

“For the big players, our data center CPUs and AI accelerators are making content creation faster and more AI-driven. And for individual influencers, our AI PCs enable quick video editing and high-quality content generation.”

He also highlighted the transformation of India’s gaming landscape.

“India has a significant population of gamers. Many have moved from mobile gaming to high-performance, network-based games on laptops. With Intel’s innovations in performance, audio-video capabilities, and affordability, we see huge potential in this space.”

One of the most exciting developments Subramaniam revealed was Intel’s collaboration with Tejas Networks and Sankhya Labs to bring TV tuner capabilities directly into laptops.

“We’ve integrated broadcast TV tuner and demodulator technology into laptops, in partnership with Tejas and Sankhya Labs. The antenna is built inside the device, allowing users to receive broadcast content without needing internet access. This has massive potential for educational content delivery — students can access lessons without paying for data or facing online distractions. With our AI PCs, this content can also be transcribed and translated in real-time.”

Subramaniam emphasized that Intel’s broader vision is to bring AI everywhere — from the cloud and network to the edge and personal devices.

“India is not just a massive consumer base — it’s a creative powerhouse. With the right tools and innovation, we believe the country can lead in content creation, gaming, and digital learning.”

The Waves Summit 2025 brought together industry leaders, tech innovators, and media professionals to explore collaborations and showcase India’s potential as a global media and tech hub.

On Thursday afternoon, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated WAVES (World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit). The four-day summit with tagline “Connecting Creators, Connecting Countries” is poised to position India as a global hub for media, entertainment, and digital innovation by bringing together creators, startups, industry leaders, and policymakers from across the world.

In line with Prime Minister’s vision of leveraging creativity, technology, and talent to shape a brighter future, WAVES integrates films, OTT, gaming, comics, digital media, AI, AVGC-XR, broadcasting, and emerging tech, making it a comprehensive showcase of India’s media and entertainment prowess. WAVES aims to unlock a USD 50 billion market by 2029, expanding India’s footprint in the global entertainment economy.

At WAVES 2025, India also hosts the Global Media Dialogue (GMD) for the first time, with ministerial participation from 25 countries, marking a milestone in the country’s engagement with the global media and entertainment landscape.

The NHL will expand the use of Sony’s skeletal tracking Hawk-Eye technology under a multiyear tie-up that could impact how hockey games are officiated and the way they are viewed at home. 

The deal makes Sony an official NHL technology partner, with connections ranging from the use of Sony cameras to the company’s Beyond Sports team helping the league recreate hockey games as animated visualizations in real time. 

“When you look at the total partnership, the way we set it up, obviously it runs across Sony,” said David Lehanski, NHL executive vice president of business development and innovation. “So it canvases across their whole company in a way that’s going to affect everyone in our community.”

The NHL has used Sony technology for replay reviews specifically since 2015.

“The NHL were the first within the U.S. to do video review, and now that is used almost universally across global sports,” Hawk-Eye, Pulselive and Beyond Sports CEO Rufus Hack said. “We now have 1,500 people who work for our business globally, and actually having them delivering at a world-class level—and understanding what the pressure is of delivering some of these solutions in the heat of battle—is actually almost one of the most important things that we’ve learned from the NHL and early adopters in cricket and tennis that we’ve been able to port into other sports.”

The NFL will use Hawk-Eye for evaluating line-to-gain decisions starting this season, while European soccer leagues have leveraged similar tools for automated offsides and goal reviews. All 32 NHL arenas now have 60-frames-per-second optical tracking setups that follow 29 points on each player and three points on each stick.

Lehanski said the league is evaluating the potential use of tracking data to quickly weigh in on offsides infractions and goals, though the speed and physicality of hockey present unique challenges. 

The same tracking data that would be used to assist those calls is already being deployed by teams as a player evaluation tool. Increasingly, it’s changing the way fans watch sports, too.

Early player tracking data has been used for kid-friendly animated broadcasts. With the added precision of limb and stick data, analysts such as P.K. Subban now don VR headsets to put themselves on virtual ice, with 360-degree views of the action. 

Going forward, the NHL would like to give fans a similar opportunity. Digital recreations could live within web-based or video game environments that allow consumers to manipulate the perspective and even attempt to recreate on-ice feats. To do so, the league could tap additional Sony arms, such as its PlayStation platform, which includes VR functionality. Beyond Sports has already helped the NHL deliver feeds in Roblox, drawing more than one million unique visitors in the first month of that activation back in 2023.

“We think at Sony, we’ve got a really unique mix of capabilities,” Hack said. “We want to bring in the best of PlayStation, the best of Sony Music, Sony Pictures … so we can really help take the sports industry to a new level.”

Modular Design That Grows With You

That philosophy helped win over F45 Training, a global franchise known for its group workouts. As strength training demand grew, the company realized its equipment and programming needed an upgrade. “By investing in a PR-5000 with a Dual-Sided Athena, they tapped into the rising strength training trend, re-engaged their members and expanded their programming library with over 600 new movements,” says Pizer.

The PR-5000 is emblematic of REP’s approach: modular and rugged, and built to help gym owners adapt and scale. “You can start with a base rack and add ATHENA cable towers to introduce functional trainer capabilities within the same footprint,” Pizer explains. “As your space expands, you can add storage or other accessories to improve organization and functionality.”

This kind of modular thinking is exactly what drew REP-sponsored athlete Mike Adaila, owner of Denver’s Physical Culture Club, to the PR-5000 and ARES 2.0 systems. “We have four of those racks at our gym. It’s kind of like having four mini gyms in one big gym,” Adaila says. “We do circuit-style training with three people per rack rotating through exercises — it’s extremely efficient.”

Other innovations, like the ARES 2.0, take multifunctionality to another level. With dual weight stacks, the system allows two users to train simultaneously without interference — an important factor in high-traffic environments. “Using multi-use stations, gyms can eliminate the need for multiple standalone machines, saving space and increasing ROI,” says Pizer. “The proximity of users can also help gym operators get more out of their coaching staff, as fewer coaches are needed to monitor workouts in a more compact area.”

Even the feel of the equipment is designed to match the quality of stand-alone machines. “You won’t feel a difference when using the ARES for true isometric exercises, or the Adonis for the 1:1 lat pulldown and low-row functions,” says Pizer. “These machines combine compactness with top-tier performance, providing excellent biomechanics and durability.”

Adaila also highlights how the dual pulleys on the ARES support more athletic, real-world training. “Doing rotational or cross-body movements on the cables is super functional for our members who are out hiking, skiing or trail running,” he says. “It helps them move better outside the gym.”

Adding cable systems like the Athena unlocks another level of functionality. “Anytime you can integrate a cable system into your facility, you open up a world of new opportunities,” says Joe Koenecke, REP Fitness National Retail Sales Manager. “You can pair it with our Pegasus Seat to perform single-arm lat pulldowns or use traditional attachments for bodybuilding movements like tricep extensions, biceps curls and lateral raises.”
