Felix Rosenqvist will make his career 100th NTT INDYCAR SERIES start in the Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix powered by AmFirst on Sunday at Barber Motorsports Park.

He will mark the milestone from the 14th starting position in the No. 60 SiriusXM Honda for Meyer Shank Racing after narrowly missing out on the second round by .0155 of a second.

“It feels a bit unreal, to be honest,” he said of reaching the century mark.

Rosenqvist reflected on how far he has come since his INDYCAR SERIES debut driving for Chip Ganassi Racing back in 2019. He won Rookie of the Year honors that season and scored his only victory so far a year later at Road America.

From a childhood dream in Sweden to hitting the 100-start milestone, he’s experienced a steady evolution personally and professionally.

Following three seasons with Arrow McLaren, Rosenqvist joined MSR as the lead driver for the Honda-powered program in 2024.

“Even my first years in INDYCAR, obviously, this is nothing you take for granted, racing in one of the top leagues of the world,” Rosenqvist said. “Now, it’s been like a fast forward. One hundred is a big number. That’s a lot of hours in the car (smiling). I think it’s literally the coolest job in the world you can have.”

Rosenqvist enters the 90-lap race (1:30 p.m. ET, FOX, FOX Sports app, INDYCAR Radio Network) fourth in points, tying the highest he’s been in the standings. He finished seventh in the March 2 season-opening Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, fifth on March 23 at The Thermal Club INDYCAR Grand Prix and fourth in the April 13 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.

“It’s also nice that I feel better than ever in the series, as well,” Rosenqvist said. “I probably had my best start in a year that I had. Exciting stuff.

“I feel like I’m a different guy than what I showed up. I’m a better person in many ways, not only a driver, but just in general. A lot of things have changed since I showed up 2019.”

Power Bringing Fight to Palou

Will Power made a notable step forward at Barber Motorsports Park. Qualifying fourth in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet and making his first Firestone Fast Six appearance this year indicates improved one-lap pace and momentum heading into Sunday’s 90-lap race.

His ability to climb in the field in the last two events – advancing 15 spots at The Thermal Club and eight in Long Beach – shows he’s got the race craft and strategy execution to challenge even when starting mid-pack.

Starting near the front Sunday, Power is in a stronger position against 26 other starters, most notably his Team Penske teammate Scott McLaughlin, who won this race the last two years, and two-time defending NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Alex Palou.

Palou qualified first in the No. 10 HRC Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing, with McLaughlin starting alongside in the front row in the No. 3 Good Ranchers Team Penske Chevrolet.

“Happy to have my first appearance (this season) in the top 12, actually, let alone the top six,” Power said. “We’ve had very strong race days, but that (Alex) Palou guy, he makes it hard, man. Really happy to be fourth. You can definitely do something from there.

“It might seem like a track you can’t pass, but it might be a bit of a hectic race tomorrow.”

Strong Qualifying Effort from VeeKay

Rinus VeeKay’s turnaround at Barber is impressive and could be one of the early surprises of the 2025 INDYCAR SERIES season.

After struggling on this track in qualifying last year with Ed Carpenter Racing and posting just one top-10 finish so far in three races with Dale Coyne Racing this season, starting fifth on a track where he’s previously qualified on the pole and landed a podium in 2022 signals personal comfort with the circuit and quick adaptation to his new team.

That leap – from starting 27th last year to fifth this year – underscores how well the No. 18 askROI Honda suits him.

“I love this place,” VeeKay said. “It’s always been good to me. The car was exactly what I needed to be quick. So that really makes it a lot more fun, too. So big props to Dale Coyne Racing and Honda for giving me what I need. It was awesome out there. Had a lot of fun.”

The Dutch driver qualified 12th, 13th and 25th previously this season, with a best finish of ninth in St. Petersburg. Saturday reflects renewed confidence and chemistry with the car, essential at a technical, flowing track like Barber, where driver rhythm and setup precision are key.

Back Home for Lundgaard

Christian Lundgaard’s connection to the next two INDYCAR SERIES tracks adds an extra layer of comfort and confidence for the young Dane.

Barber Motorsports Park was where he first dipped his toes into INDYCAR SERIES machinery for a test with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in 2021, and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course was the scene of his impressive debut later that year, where he qualified fourth and turned heads immediately.

Returning to these tracks, including this Saturday’s Sonsio Grand Prix at IMS, gives Lundgaard a valuable advantage with more experience under his belt. He’s familiar with the rhythm of the circuits and carries positive memories that can help him build momentum as the season picks up.

“I drove my first ever test here,” Lundgaard said. “So, kind of just feels like home in that sense, to come out here.”

Lundgaard has three Barber starts, with a best finish of sixth for RLL last season. He joined Arrow McLaren this offseason, and Barber was the site of his second test with the team. He was fourth quickest in the March 10 test session in the No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet.

“The car was good at the test, and I think we just kind of tried to carry that into the weekend,” Lundgaard said.

Lundgaard starts seventh on Sunday. He is sandwiched between Arrow McLaren teammates Nolan Siegel, who earned his best-career starting spot of sixth in the No. 6 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet, and 2022 Barber winner Pato O’Ward, who rolls off eighth in the No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet.

Cindric Joins INDY NXT Booth Sunday

Tim Cindric is doing double duty Sunday at Barber Motorsports Park.

In addition to his full-time job as president of Team Penske’s three-car NTT INDYCAR SERIES program, Cindric will join the FS1 booth for the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of Alabama airing at 11:30 a.m. ET.

His son, Austin Cindric, won the NASCAR Cup Series race last Sunday down the road at Talladega Superspeedway.

Odds And Ends

  • Chevrolet has three straight Barber Motorsports Park victories via two different teams – Arrow McLaren (2022), Team Penske (2023, 2024). Both teams comprise six of the top nine starters on Sunday.
  • Honda has three straight victories this season via two different teams – Chip Ganassi Racing (St. Petersburg, The Thermal Club) and Andretti Global (Long Beach). A CGR Honda starts first with Palou, and Andretti Global’s Colton Herta in the No. 26 Gainbridge Honda rolls off third.
  • Last year’s action-packed Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix witnessed six leaders and 10 lead changes and featured a track record 289 on-track passes, including 281 passes for position.
  • The first six laps of the season-opening Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg were run under caution due to a first-lap crash between Siegel, Power and rookie Louis Foster. There have been 249 consecutive green flag laps since, including all 65 laps of The Thermal Club INDYCAR Grand Prix and the 90-lap Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. Barber has never had a caution-free race in 14 tries, but there’s been two or fewer cautions 11 times, including eight of the last nine races. There was one yellow flag each in 2019, 2022 and 2023.
  • Five drivers have finished in the top10 in all three races this season. No surprise, each is in the topfive in points. Leader Palou (first, first, second) and his teammate Scott Dixon (second, 10th, eighth) are joined by fellow Honda drivers Rosenqvist (seventh, fifth, fourth) and Kyle Kirkwood (fifth, eighth, first) and Chevrolet driver Lundgaard (eight, third, third) for this distinction.
  • The next three races all have drivers going for three-peats. McLaughlin won the last two races at Barber Motorsports Park, Palou won the last two Sonsio Grand Prix events, and Josef Newgarden is the two-time defending Indianapolis 500 winner.

NASCAR tries grow fan base with first Cup Series race in Mexico City

NASCAR’s first international Cup Series race of the modern era is all about the eyeballs, specifically new fans in the Mexico City market.

NASCAR will be on the track Friday for the first of three days of racing at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez, one of the most popular stops on the Formula One calendar and Ben Kennedy’s newest project.

The great-grandson of NASCAR founder Bill France Sr., Kennedy has taken the family business beyond its comfortable confines before.

Kennedy in 2022 moved the preseason exhibition Clash from its longtime home at Daytona International Speedway in Florida to a temporary track built inside Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Kennedy this year moved the Clash to The Madhouse — the historic Bowman Gray Stadium, which had last hosted a Cup race in 1971, in Winston-Salem, N.C.

NASCAR under Kennedy also returned to North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Carolina for the first time since 1977 when the All-Star race was moved there three years ago. He allowed dirt at Bristol Motor Speedway, a hybrid road course and oval at Charlotte Motor Speedway, alongside his biggest undertaking: NASCAR’s first street race, held in downtown Chicago.

He also had his eyes set on expanding internationally, which will come Sunday with the first points-paying international race in the Cup Series since 1958. It is only third time in 77 years NASCAR’s top series will run an event that counts in the championship outside the United States. The last two times were in Canada; the Cup Series also has held exhibitions in Japan and Australia.

“Our biggest opportunity to grow as a sport is international,” Kennedy said when he announced Mexico City was replacing one of the two races on the schedule allocated to Richmond International Raceway.

“The U.S. is always going to be our mainstay and our next opportunity was to expand internationally,” he said. “We said we’ve wanted to do this for a long time, but also needed to make sure it was the right time, the right partners and the right location. Mexico City checked every box. To be in one of the biggest cities globally — more than 20 million people that live in the city — is a massive opportunity for us to bring the sport.”

The weekend includes the second-tier Xfinity Series and the NASCAR Mexico Series. It’s a strong return to a market that devours the entire F1 weekend ticket package within an hour of them becoming available.

Mexicans have proven to be rabid motorsports fans but haven’t gotten a chance to see NASCAR’s big names since 2008, the final year of a four-year run of Xfinity races. Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. were winners during the four-year stretch.

Daniel Suarez, the former Xfinity champion and native of Monterrey, is NASCAR’s face of the event. He raced the circuit 13 times with a different layout in the NASCAR Mexico Series, and three of Suarez’s starts were wins.

“I’m super excited for the event. I’m super excited to live the moment because the first time is going to only happen once,” Suarez said. “I’m really trying to be as present as possible, enjoy the moment and try to execute the best possible weekend that we can. We know that we are capable of winning the race, but that’s not the goal. The goal is the execution of the entire weekend, and hopefully the win is the result of the execution part.”

The planning that has gone into Mexico City, one of 38 events on the Cup schedule, began about a year ago. NASCAR has worked on myriad details, beginning with how to get nearly 200 trucks hauling race cars and equipment from Michigan International Speedway into Mexico City.

NASCAR official Tom Bryant has spearheaded the organizational logistics and made multiple trips to the border crossing in Laredo, Texas, to meet with customs officials from both nations.

The drive from Michigan to Mexico City is about 40 hours, not including the tedious customs crossing, where all the equipment and tools on every NASCAR hauler must be documented on an exhaustive manifest. Cup Series teams cars were scheduled for a Monday night arrival at Laredo, with crossing scheduled for Tuesday and arrival at the track Thursday.

“It’s been a ton of coordination moving lots of people and lots of stuff safely and efficiently across a great distance and an international border,” Bryant said on the “Hauler Talk” NASCAR podcast.

“There is a lot to it, but the key to it is you just have to define the problem. We’ve got to get these people and these things from this point to that point within a certain time period,” he said. “How do we do it in a way that’s going to best position us to be ready to go to work as soon as we hit the ground down there? Because this is a pretty tight window.”

The Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series is proud to welcome back Universal Truck and Trailer as the event sponsor for the series’ upcoming 2025 stop at Oyster Bed Speedway, set for this Saturday, June 14th.

This marks the third consecutive year that Universal Truck and Trailer has supported the Oyster Bed Speedway event, helping to deliver one of the most competitive and anticipated races on the series calendar. Their continued partnership underscores a strong commitment to motorsports in Atlantic Canada—and especially on Prince Edward Island.

“Universal Truck & Trailer is proud to partner with Oyster Bed Speedway and the Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series to present the Universal Truck & Trailer 150 for a third consecutive year,” said Anil Bhoi of Universal Truck & Trailer. “The passion of race fans is unmatched. We love seeing so many of our customers at the track and also getting to meet new customers in the backdrop of an exciting 150-lap championship event! We hope to see everyone on June 14th!”

Headquartered in Dieppe, New Brunswick, Universal Truck and Trailer is Atlantic Canada’s largest heavy-duty truck and trailer dealership, with locations across the region, including Dieppe, Saint John, and Charlottetown. The Charlottetown location plays a vital role in supporting the Island’s commercial transportation needs and stands just a short drive from Oyster Bed Speedway—making this partnership a natural fit for race fans and the local business community alike. And with extended parts hours now available in Charlottetown – being open Monday through Friday from 8am to 7pm – they are ready to look after all your needs!

Fans can find out more about Universal Truck & Trailer on Facebook, on their website at universaltruckandtrailer.com, or by stopping into any of their locations!

The Universal Truck and Trailer 150 has delivered high drama and memorable moments since becoming part of the Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series. Dylan Gosbee kicked off the tradition in 2023 with a storybook victory on home soil en route to his championship, while Cory Hall etched his name into the history books in 2024 with an emotional win over a driver in Greg Proude who was taking his final bow at his home track. As the 2025 season unfolds, new faces and fresh storylines have created a wide-open landscape where any driver could break through—making this year’s edition even more intriguing.

“The field is wide open this year,” said Robbie MacLean, owner and promoter of Oyster Bed Speedway. “There’s no clear-cut favourite, which adds a ton of excitement for fans. We’ve seen two great editions of this race already, and with the talent coming this year, I think it’s going to be even better. We couldn’t be happier to get to witness it all unfold alongside the great folks at Universal Truck and Trailer!”

With championship hopes hanging in the balance, every lap of the Universal Truck and Trailer 150 will matter as teams battle for glory on one of the most challenging ovals in the region.

In addition to the Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series, racing enthusiasts will be treated to action from Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Legends, and Bandoleros. Grandstand tickets are just $30, while youth ages 8 to 15 are $10. Kids 7 and under are free, and pit admission is $40.  Fans are encouraged to circle Saturday, June 14th and prepare for a thrilling night of stock car action.

As the 2025 season unfolds, fans are encouraged to follow along to the many updates and announcements all throughout the season. The Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series can be found on Facebook, X (formerly known as Twitter), Instagram, and YouTube at @SLMSeries. All information on the Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series can be found on the official series website at SLMS.ca.

Denny Hamlin won on Sunday at Michigan for his third NASCAR Cup Series victory in 2025. While his 57th career Cup win was understandably a notable achievement for the Joe Gibbs Racing driver, it was just one of the main storylines about the driver heading into and coming out of the weekend. The other was the pending birth of his son.

On Tuesday, the 44-year-old visited with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio about his win in the Irish Hills and was also asked about his soon-to-be-born baby boy and plans for the upcoming week as the series travels south of the border to Mexico.

“I said from the very beginning, if she hasn’t had it by the time I need to leave for Mexico, then I’m not gonna go to Mexico,” Hamlin said. “I think that that’s the proper thing to do. But really just letting her call the shots. I think that’s the best thing.

“And when she, her body and her mind says that it’s time, then that’s what we’ll do. And ultimately, I need to be there for her during, post and and all those things. So, just gonna make sure I spend the proper time with her and obviously the racing will come second this week.”

According to the the plans, that means if the baby isn’t born by Thursday, the three-time Daytona 500 champion will be staying home in North Carolina. If his firstborn son comes before then, he’ll likely be heading to Mexico.

Race coverage for the first-ever international points-paying race begins at 3 p.m. ET on Prime.

Scott Bloomquist’s 2024 fatal plane crash was intentional and ruled a suicide, the National Transportation Safety Board.

“The pilot departed from a private airstrip and overflew his property,” the NTSB statement read. “The airplane subsequently impacted a barn adjacent to the airstrip. The airplane sustained substantial damage, and the fuselage was mostly consumed by the postimpact fire that ensued. The pilot was fatally injured. An autopsy of the pilot was performed by the William L. Jenkins Forensic Center, Johnson City, Tennessee.

“The autopsy report listed the cause of death as blunt force injuries and the manner of death as suicide.”

According to MSN, Bloomquist was struggling with health issues that included lower-body injuries suffered in a motorcycle crash during 2019 Daytona Bike Week, a diagnosis of prostate cancer, back surgery, and a recent hospitalization due to complications from a horsefly bite that went unnoticed due to numbness from the 2019 motorcycle crash.

Bloomquist, 60, was the winningest driver ever in the Lucas Oil dirt Late Model series and is also a World of Outlaws Late Model champion.

He was inducted into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in 2002. He won over 30 Late Model races in the World of Outlaws and had over 90 wins in the Lucas Oil dirt Late Model series.
