BASEBALL: EPIC FINISH FOR PINCONNING
Beaverton was one pitch away from a celebration.
But that pitch would send Pinconning dancing off the field in jubilation.
In one of the craziest finishes of the year, Pinconning went from the brink of defeat to a stunning 6-5 victory and a Jack Pine Conference sweep of the Beavers.
Pinconning (15-9, 8-7) trailed 4-0 before denting the scoreboard with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Spartans trailed 5-2 coming into their final at-bats and made them count.
Alex Shelagowski and Alex Rivard singled while Cole Dzurka and Landen Enciso walked, dicing the deficit to 5-3 and loading the bases with two outs. The final out would never come for Beaverton.
Calvin Holland roped a clutch double that brought in two runs and, when the throw from the outfield went errant, Enciso dashed home with the game-winning run.
“Calvin came up with a huge hit,” Pinconning coach Casey Pashak said. “With some great baserunning and a little luck, we went from down two to walking off the field with a win in the blink of an eye.”
Holland finished with three RBIs and matched Enciso with two hits in the win. Blake Kareus got the win with three innings of two-hit relief.
Pinconning posted an 8-0 win in the opener, scoring three in the third and five in the sixth. Holland had two hits and two RBIs and Shelagowski knocked two hits. Isaiah Hoffman, Zach Laures and Kareus combined for the four-hit shutout.

BASEBALL: GLENN EDGED ON GRAND STAGE
The John Glenn baseball team has enjoyed many memorable moments at Dow Diamond.
But the Bobcats couldn’t deliver any magic this time around, dropping a pair of one-run contests at the home of the Great Lakes Loons.
Glenn came up short in a 7-6 loss to Alpena in the opener. Andrew Shufelt knocked two hits, including a triple for the Bobcats while Remington Ranck had a double and three RBIs and Nick Naylor added a double.
Glenn (11-10) then dropped a 3-2 duel with Saginaw Valley Lutheran in the nightcap. Shufelt highlighted the Bobcats with two hits.

BASEBALL: TWO GET AWAY FROM CENTRAL
Bay City Central did plenty of things to win both games with Lapeer. But the Wolves came away with neither as the Lightning landed tough 1-0 and 13-11 victories in Saginaw Valley League action.
Cam Reed gave the Wolves a pitching gem in Game 1, firing seven shutout innings while striking out nine. But Lapeer countered with no-hitter from Gabe Shores and a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth from Cam Forgione for the 1-0 win.
“Another great outing for Cam Reed but another outing where we can’t get any runs for him,” Central coach Brady Neitzel said. “Every time he’s on the mound, there’s no doubt in my mind we have a chance.”
Central (5-16, 5-9) saw a five-run lead turn into a five-run deficit when Lapeer erupted for 10 third-inning runs in Game 2. Aaron Kain drove in two runs for the Wolves and matched Jose Costilla with two hits. Wyatt Stachowiak and Nick Charbonneau delivered key run-scoring hits.

ERLANGER, Ky. — In a recent community conversation on addiction held at the Erlanger branch of the Kenton County Library, David McDonald from Brightview emphasized the urgent need to change the prevailing narrative surrounding the addiction crisis.
“We need to change our minds,” McDonald said. “We need to change the narrative on what addiction is, who’s suffering with it, and how we’re treating it because we can’t do it alone.”
McDonald, who has a background in television news, highlighted the critical role the media plays in addressing addiction.
“The more we get it out there, I think that’s a big way that especially the media can help fight this issue,” McDonald said, underscoring the significance of open dialogue and education in combating stigma.
Good Morning Tri-State anchor Adrian Whitsett echoed this sentiment, stressing the necessity of involving those who understand the complexities of addiction in public discussions.
“I think that’s part of this conversation, right?” Whitsett said. “The more that we talk about it, the better people understand the reality.”
He pointed out that hearing firsthand accounts from individuals who have experienced addiction can provide an invaluable perspective.
The discussion centered not only on recovery solutions but also on reducing the stigma surrounding addiction.
See a recap of the community conversation on addiction and recovery in the video player below:
Community pharmacist Jordan raised concerns about biases prevalent both in society and within the healthcare system.
“Can we also talk about health care bias?” Jordan asked, highlighting how this bias can impact patients seeking help. “I have a patient demographic that is very at risk. I see repeat patients who won’t go to the points of access of care, won’t go to emergency rooms because they feel like they’re going to be turned away,” she said.
“I encounter a patient demographic that is very at risk. I see repeat patients who won’t go to points of access for care, like emergency rooms, because they fear they’ll be turned away,” Jordan explained.
At WCPO 9, we are committed to sharing more stories and reshaping how addiction is perceived and discussed in our community. We believe there is significant potential to foster greater understanding and support for those struggling with addiction.
community conversation served as a call to action, urging everyone to come together, share their stories, and advocate for systemic changes that address the stigma attached to addiction.
“The more that we talk about it, the better people understand the reality,” said Whitsett, encouraging everyone to engage in these crucial dialogues.
As the event concluded, it was evident that a collective effort to shift the narrative around addiction is essential.
Only through understanding, empathy and open communication can our community make meaningful strides in tackling this pressing issue. The voices and experiences shared during this gathering marked a crucial step toward recognizing the complexities of addiction and highlighting the importance of comprehensive support for those affected.

Micah Parsons is a superstar edge defender for the Dallas Cowboys and stepped up to be an emotional leader for the team last season.

During his four-game absence last year, the defense played with minimal confidence and urgency. When Parsons is on the field, he raises the intensity level of his teammates by being a true “lion” on the field.
And …
Parsons is an athletic freak of nature whose football background isn’t limited to the defensive side of the ball.
In high school, Parsons was an incredible running back who via video once again going viral looked like a man among boys. Highlights from his days at Harrisburg High School in Pennsylvania have resurfaced on social media, reminding everyone how special an athlete Parsons was and continues to be.
And Micah is loving every minute of it, as Parsons commented on his high school highlight video going viral on X, stating he averaged almost 10 yards per carry.
During his senior year of high school, Parsons had an impressive season on the ground, recording 1,239 yards and 27 touchdowns in 12 games.
The Pennsylvania native decided to stay in his home state and take his talents to Penn State to play college ball—where he focused on the defensive side of the ball and became a stud linebacker.
Fans of course wonder: Could Parsons have been a two-way star at the collegiate level? Could he be an NFL force at 6-4 and 240 pounds with the ball in his hands?
Maybe … but his development as a versatile chess piece on defense has been stellar, as he continues to master the nuances of rushing the passer.
Parsons is one of the NFL’s best defenders and is set to make around $40 million per season with his looming contract extension.

Elayna Black, known to WWE fans as Cora Jade until her release on May 2, 2025, has stated her openness to joining All Elite Wrestling. The former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion shared her thoughts on her future and AEW’s creative environment during a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show.
Black expressed a clear interest in potentially working with AEW. “I would definitely be open to going to AEW. I loved my time there. I have a lot of friends there,” she said.
The former WWE star made a brief appearance on AEW Dark in 2020 as Elayna Black before signing with WWE. Her positive sentiment towards the promotion is also fueled by its creative approach.
“I watch all the shows. I love the fact that they have as much creative freedom as they do,” Black noted. She further explained her appreciation for AEW’s style.

She stated, “I’m so much for storylines and character, so I feel they are very creatively free in that way.” Black signed with WWE in early 2021 and quickly made a name for herself in NXT as Cora Jade.
She developed a rebellious “Generation of Jade” persona. She captured the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship alongside Roxanne Perez, with whom she also had a memorable, intense feud after turning heel.

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – OCTOBER 11: A WWE logo is shown on a screen before a WWE news conference at T-Mobile Arena on October 11, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was announced that WWE wrestler Braun Strowman will face heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury and WWE champion Brock Lesnar will take on former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez at the WWE’s Crown Jewel event at Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on October 31.
Throughout her NXT tenure, she was involved in several prominent storylines and was considered a key part of the brand’s women’s division. Following her WWE departure, she has reverted to her Black ring name and has been actively preparing for the next chapter of her career.
She’s done so by launching an OnlyFans account and taking independent bookings as her 30-day non-compete period ended around June 1, 2025. Her comments about AEW signal a significant potential landing spot for the young star.
AEW may be the right landing spot for her, considering that she is still so young and could use the rival promotion as a launching pad for her career on a short-term basis. A one or two-year deal would be something she could use greatly to her benefit and perhaps make her way to WWE one day if she impresses enough.
