The Louisville Bats lost 5-2. Box Score
Game Notes
The Bats had two players exit the game with injury on Friday. Bryson Brigman caught a ball on the warning track in the 2nd inning and when he turned and threw the ball to the infield he appeared to do something strange to his leg. The trainer checked on him and he stayed in the game, but was clearly favoring one leg and was then pinch hit for in the bottom of the inning. Shortly after that Alan Busenitz had to exit the game after just 16 pitches – 11 of which were balls.
Jack Rogers began the year with Louisville, but played in just three games. He went 3-6 with a double. He was then sent to Chattanooga and continued to hit, posting a .327/.382/.429 line for the Lookouts in 15 games. He was called back up to Louisville on Friday and just kept on going by picking up two more hits. Rogers is now hitting .356/.400/.458 in 19 games this season.

Game Notes
Sal Stewart had his 5th multi-hit game in his last seven games. He’s now hitting .304/.381/.455 on the season through 30 games.
Dominic Pitelli hit .129 in his first 20 games and had just nine hits. In his last six games he’s had eight hits and has hit .364.
Joel Valdez lowered his ERA to 2.38. In his 11.1 innings he’s struck out 15 batters and walked six.

- Johnny Ascanio went 1-3 with 2 walks.

- Brian Edgington allowed 2 runs in 5.0 innings with 2 walks and 13 strikeouts.
- Jimmy Romano allowed a run in 2.2 innings with a strikeout.
- Joseph Menefee allowed a run in 1.1 innings with a walk and 3 strikeouts.
Game Notes
Carlos Jorge had been 1-32 over his previous eight games. He ended that slump with a 2-run home run, which was his first hit since May 1st. He didn’t strike out in the game, which was the first game he didn’t strike out since April 27th.
Yerlin Confidan has hit .273 in May, but he’s been on a wild, roller coaster type of ride this season. In his first 10 games of the year he hit .300 with 12 walks and eight strikeouts in 44 plate appearances. Since then he’s hit .192 with five walks and 33 strikeouts in 78 plate appearances.
Leo Balcazar has hits in just three of his eight games in May, but they’ve all been multi-hit games with an extra-base hit. From April 18th through May 7th he only walked in one game, walking twice on April 30th. But he’s now walked in each of the last two games (three walks).
Walks will haunt, and for Brian Edgington that was the case on Friday night. He walked the first batter of the game and then the #3 hitter connected for a 2-run home run. That was the only hit he allowed in his 5.0 innings of work. And he was dominant after that, striking out 12 batters after that, giving him 13 of them in his outing. The haunting wasn’t too bad, though, as the offense came through in a big way for the Dragons on the night.
For Edgington, the 13 strikeouts set a new career best. On May 31st of 2024 he struck out 10 batters for Daytona – his only other double-digit strikeout game. He had struggled with his control in the first four outings of the season where he walked seven batters in 11.1 innings. But over his last three games he’s walked three batters and has struck out 22 while throwing 14.0 innings.
The Daytona Tortugas won 7-2. Box Score
Game Notes
This game was called in the bottom of the 7th inning. Fortunately for the Tortugas the storm that rolled through waited just long enough. When the inning began the game was tied up at 2-2, but Daytona scored five runs before the lightning showed up – and they were still batting and had runners on when the game was delayed (and eventually called final).
Sammy Stafura stayed hot. He had his 5th 2-hit game of May. He’s been on base at least twice in all seven games he’s played in the month and is now hitting .423/.516/.808 during May. That’s helped raised his line on the season to .275/.412/.484. He struck out 28 times in 85 plate appearances in April, but has just four strikeouts in 31 plate appearances this month.
Luis Leones walked eight times in the first nine games he played in this season. Then he didn’t walk in the next nine games, but has now walked in back-to-back games since. Leones is hitting .279/.413/.344 in his 76 plate appearances.
Ryan McCrystal went 1-29 from April 16th through May 2nd. In the four games since then he’s gone 6-15 with four runs batted in.
Nick Sando set a new career high with nine strikeouts. His previous high came last season when he struck out seven batters in two different outings – one with Daytona and one with the ACL Reds.
The ACL Reds lost 5-2. Box Score
Game Notes
This game was a scheduled 7-inning contest.
Alfredo Alcantara struck out for the first time this season. He’s had 10 plate appearances this season and just that one strikeout. Last season he had 74 strikeouts in 205 plate appearances for the ACL Reds. That’s a 10% strikeout rate compared to a 36% strikeout rate. Small sample size, of course, but still felt noteworthy.
Drew Davies is 3-10 with three walks and a home run through his four games this season.
Christian Lopez made his 2025 debut with a solid start. The 18-year-old left-handed starter had a 2.09 ERA last season in 47.1 innings for the DSL Reds and Rojos. He was throwing his fastball in the mid-to-upper 80’s, a change up in the 79-82 MPH range, and a slider in the mid-to-upper 70’s. He had five swinging strikes on the evening.
Top Pitch Velocity: Gabe Starks – 97.9 MPH (single)
Top Exit Velocity: Arnaldo Lantigua – 107.2 MPH (single)
Furthest Hit Baseball: Drew Davies – 386 feet (home run)
