Dennis Hauger earned his third victory in four INDY NXT by Firestone races this season, passing Andretti Global teammate Lochie Hughes early and powering to victory in the second race of the Indianapolis Grand Prix doubleheader Saturday on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.
Hauger drove his No. 28 Rental Group car to a 4.7739-second victory over the No. 26 McGinley Clinic/USF Pro Championship machine of pole sitter Hughes, who earned his first career victory in the INDYCAR development series Friday evening in Race 1. Myles Rowe finished a career-best third for the second consecutive race in the No. 99 Abel/Force Indy entry.
SEE: Race Results
“It’s been a great start to the season,” Hauger said. “Yesterday wasn’t great, but we were able to come back and get a win today. Super-happy about that, and in a place like this, it’s awesome.”
Salvador de Alba climbed one spot from his Friday finish to place fourth in the No. 27 Grupo Indi car as the third Andretti Global entry to finish in the top four today on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile circuit. Caio Collet rounded out the top five in the No. 76 HMD Motorsports car.
Norwegian driver Hauger became the first driver to win three of the first four INDY NXT by Firestone races of the season since current NTT INDYCAR SERIES star Pato O’Ward achieved the feat in 2018.
Hauger’s path to victory was created when he survived the first turn of the 35-lap race without contact, unlike Race 1. He was bumped off track in Turn 1 on the first lap Friday, falling to last in the 21-car field before recovering to finish eighth.
Hughes once again led into Turn 1 today, this time with fellow rookie teammate Hauger in pursuit. Hughes built a gap of 1.7 seconds by Lap 3 when the only caution period of the race was triggered when Jack William Miller in the No. 40 Abel/Miller/Vinatieri Motorsports car and Nolan Allaer in the No. 11 HMD Motorsports machine made side-by-side contact in Turn 1, forcing both cars to a stop in the grass.
On the restart at the end of Lap 5, Hughes and Hauger raced side by side toward Turn 1, with Hauger on the left and Hughes on the right at the start of Lap 6. Hauger edged ahead approaching Turn 2, with his left wheels on the dirt adjacent to the asphalt, and completed the pass for the lead in that corner.
Hauger never trailed thereafter, but Hughes stayed close for a while. Hauger’s lead stayed around one second until about 10 laps to go, when he started to pull away. He padded his gap to 2.6718 seconds by Lap 29 and continued to drive away until the checkered flag.
“Yesterday was tough,” Hauger said. “I think we really didn’t have the balance, either, going through the field. But today we really nailed it. It was a warm day, and you had to judge it nicely with the rear tires.
“We managed well, and we had really good pace today. That’s a good way to bounce back.”
Hauger took a 15-point lead over Hughes in the series standings after four of 14 races this season. The next race is the Detroit Grand Prix on Sunday, June 1 on the streets of downtown Detroit (10:30 a.m. ET, FS1, FOX Sports app, INDYCAR Radio Network).

11-year-old who has overcome 19 surgeries designs car of hope and healing for Chase Elliott

Chase Elliott will again have his No. 9 NAPA Chevrolet decorated by a child to bring attention to and help raise funds for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
This marks the ninth edition of the “Desi9n to Drive” program through the Chase Elliott Foundation. “Desi9n to Drive” has raised nearly half a million dollars for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
Elliott will run the special scheme on his Hendrick Motorsports car at EchoPark Speedway, the track formerly known as Atlanta Motor Speedway.
“At first (the program) kind of started off with shoes and really NAPA’s involvement kind of took it to the next level, honestly,” Elliott said. “It’s been rewarding, but I think more than anything it’s had an impactful difference on people’s lives.”
Elliott’s car and uniform for the June 28 race will feature a design created by 11-year-old Rhealynn Mills, chosen among submissions from patients at the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s.
She was diagnosed with Metastatic Osteosarcoma in October 2022. She had her right leg amputated, one of 19 surgeries she has undergone.

The car Chase Elliott will drive June, 28, 2025 at EchoPark Speedway in Hampton, Ga. The car was designed by an 11-year-old as part of the “Desi9n to Drive” program through the Chase Elliott Foundation that benefits Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Her design illustrates her desire to be a nurse and features symbols of hope and healing, including gold childhood cancer ribbons, stethoscopes, heart monitors and the words “Cure Cancer” and “healing kids like me” on the No. 9 car.
“For her to kind of exemplify and show the fight that she’s gone through and that attitude that she’s had throughout the process, I think, is really important,” Elliott said of Mills’ design. “Excited to have her and meet here and spend some time with her family, too. I’ve said this before, it’s not just her, the whole family and what they go through and deal with through the process, it’s a lot of weight on a lot of different people.”
Elliott said that having such interactions are special to him.
“I say this a lot, if you can help make 1% of somebody’s day a little better in that situation, I think it’s worth the time,” he said. “I think that’s always a good reminder. We obviously have a lot going on, too, and everybody has their things in their own lives. I think there’s a lot of lessons in all of that.
“I think one of the biggest ones I’ve taken is you just don’t really know what someone is going through when you walk past them on the street. I think that’s just a really important thing to remember. If people can take that away from some of this, you might see these people or family members or her and have no idea, right?
“Just showing them some respect and hopefully making their days better and giving them an experience they might not have, whether they’re race fans or not, I think, is a good thing. We’re just trying to help.”
Race fans can enter the online sweepstakes fundraiser at desi9ntodrive.org to win part of Elliott’s race-worn Atlanta uniform, or a VIP race day meet and greet experience with Elliott. The donations will benefit the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s. The sweepstakes start June 12 and closes July 7.

In sad news ahead of the NASCAR Cup Mexico City, it has been confirmed that Travis Carter, NASCAR team owner and founder of Travis Carter Enterprises, has died at the age of 75. After staying in a hospice towards the end of his life, Carter died on June 10, 2025.
NASCAR issued the following statement:
“From his early days atop the pit box to his years as a respected team owner, Travis Carter embodied the competitive spirit, integrity, and passion that define NASCAR. NASCAR extends its heartfelt condolences and prayers to his family and many friends.”
Carter became crew chief for Benny Parsons, a NASCAR Hall of Famer, and put a championship win under his belt with the team.

In 1990, the North Carolina native put his own car and team into a race.
A number of NASCAR personalities and stakeholders have shared their condolences.
Rick Mast posted to X: “In 1989 Travis Carter, while in a desperate situation trying to save his team, took a chance on an unproven, unpolished rookie race car driver at @DAYTONA. He was rewarded with running up front, leading, and a 6th place finish. (Could’ve won had we gambled on fuel like Darrell did). This race propelled me into the spotlight and reaffirmed Travis’s place in our sport. That man took a chance on me because he ‘saw something.’ Travis was a visionary and was hailed with the upmost [sic] respect in our industry. RIP dear friend. ‘It’s ah dupping'”
ESPN writer Ryan McGee posted: “Godspeed Travis Carter. He used to greet me with ‘Hey, Cousin McGee’ because I was from Rockingham, NC and he was from Ellerbe, NC and ‘that’s close enough.’ What a NASCAR legend and what a damn nice guy.”
Brett Griffin also added to the tributes: “RIP Travis Carter. Got to see him a lot over the last few years at basketball games. His son Matt coached Bode for several seasons. Great family. Glad I snagged this pic of him last year to send to a buddy of mine.”
Brian Keselowski said his goodbyes: “Just heard about Travis Carter passing away. If you didn’t know him, you missed out on a great guy. When we first moved to NC in 2010 we rented a shop from him. He was so happy for us when we made Daytona in 2011, I’ll never forget it. Rest easy my friend.”

NASCAR Insiders react to Ty Gibbs furious reaction after Denny Hamlin win at Michigan

Two NASCAR insiders understood why Ty Gibbs was frustrated after Denny Hamlin won the Cup Series race at Michigan on Sunday. On The Teardown podcast, Jeff Gluck and Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic reacted to Gibbs being not happy after earning a third-place finish.
“I do get his frustration. I think from his standpoint, he’s now 24th in points,” Gluck said about Gibbs, who was told to save fuel at the end of the race instead of going for the win. “He’s probably thinking ‘We should be almost the same sort of mentality that [William] Byron had to just, hey, I don’t care if I run out of gas. This is my season.’”
Bianchi agreed with Gluck as he also understood why Gibbs was frustrated at the end of the race. “Even though Ty doesn’t have wins in the bank, you’ve got to look at it as we need to be aggressive here. We need to put ourselves in position to go for the win because that is how we’re going to get in the playoffs. I get his frustration. I get it, especially when the same guy who wins the race is on the same fuel strategy with you and I believe he let Denny go by him.
Ty Gibbs speaks out on ‘unfortunate’ finish at Michigan
“…Yeah, you’re frustrated and it’s been that kind of year for Ty. I also see the team side of it, too of like, ‘Hey, this is part of it. This is big pictures thing.’ They’re both right to some degree, but I understand Ty’s frustration, and I would be frustrated in that moment too. Finishing third in the grand scheme of things doesn’t do anything for you.”
In 94 Cup Series races, Ty Gibbs has earned 25 top-10 finishes but has yet to win a race. While Gibbs might be happy that his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate got the win, he believes that he could have earned his first victory in the Cup Series and clinched a playoff spot.
“Yeah, it’s just unfortunate because I feel like we had the capability to go do it,” Gibbs said after the race, per NASCAR.com. “I feel like we showed we were fast enough to go do it. It’s definitely frustrating, but it’s just part of it sometimes.”

After losing McDonald’s as a partner sponsor for the upcoming 2025 Chicago Street Race (the Grant Park 165), NASCAR has pivoted to another fast-food sponsor: Arby’s.
The terms are unconfirmed, but it’s thought Arby’s will substitute the $2 million McDonald’s paid. The deal will include on-site activation space and a NASCAR-themed sweepstakes across 47 locations in the Chicago region.
During the race, Arby’s will be represented by Rick Ware Racing’s Cody Ware in the No. 51 Ford Mustang. McDonald’s still represents drivers Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace, though the charter status for both drivers is still up in the air after 23XI Racing was dealt a legal setback.
NASCAR Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Craig Stummel touted the agreement in a recent press release. “It’s a watershed moment anytime you have a new brand joining the sport for the first time, especially when it’s a partner like Arby’s with such a unique, recognizable brand,” he said.
“The fact that we’re welcoming Arby’s to NASCAR on the streets of Chicago speaks to the tremendous momentum behind the NASCAR Chicago Street Race and the sport overall.”

Arby’s was founded in 1965 and boasts over 3,000 locations nationwide. They’ve attracted wide-scale recognition thanks to a series of national ad campaigns.
“Arby’s is thrilled to hit the track as a Founding Partner of the 2025 NASCAR Chicago Street Race,” said Arby’s Chief Martking Office Jeff Baker.
“This marks an exciting moment for our brand in the world of motorsports, with one of the most dynamic and groundbreaking events in racing. The city of Chicago agreed to a pact with NASCAR ahead of the 2023 Cup Series season to host three street races. Shane van Gisgbergen turned heads by winning in 2023 on his Cup Series debut. Alex Bowman captured the checkered flag at last year’s Grant Park 165.
