A total success at the first WBO Amanda Serrano Championships

12 exciting bouts were the order of the day at the Popular Plaza of the T-Mobile District

San Juan, Puerto Rico (May 10, 2025) – The future is now, as demonstrated emphatically in front of thousands present at the first event called the Amanda Serrano Championships, held at the Popular Plaza of the T-Mobile District and organized by the World Boxing Organization (WBO), the first global organization based in Puerto Rico.

With an impressive first-class setting, 24 fighters from 19 municipalities of Puerto Rico gave their all in the ring to show that women’s boxing is more alive than ever, thanks to the incredible legacy being left by the great Puerto Rican champion, Amanda Serrano, hailing from the town of Carolina. On July 11 in New York, she will become the highest-paid female combat athlete in history when she faces the undisputed 140-pound champion, Katie Taylor from Ireland.

In the first fight of the night, Kaleisha ‘Bumbi’ Figueroa from Aguadilla won by split decision against Geralivette Palau from Barranquitas in an exciting match in the 85-pound category.

In a war from start to finish, Yeribeth Montalván from Rio Grande defeated the junqueña Joriangelis Sierra by unanimous decision in the 101-pound category.

In the third fight of the night, Yaneiliz ‘Nani’ Figueroa from Aguadilla overcame Ezeiris Hernández from Caguas by unanimous decision in a bout set at 101 pounds.

In the 106-pound category, Dixie Delgado from Caguas triumphed over Arylis Rivera from Canóvanas by unanimous decision in a match that kept the entire crowd on their feet.

Kirriat Portalatin from Aguadilla and Jenelie Ramírez from Morovis went toe-to-toe from the opening round, with Ramírez emerging victorious by unanimous decision in the 110-pound category.

Yamirelis ‘La Explosiva’ Márquez from Trujillo Alto utilized her height and boxing skills to defeat Jylianisse Amaro from Luquillo by unanimous decision in a fight scheduled at 119 pounds.

In a matchup of southpaws, Nikeysha Guernard from Mayagüez defeated Kamila García from Trujillo Alto by unanimous decision in the 119-pound category.

In the 132-pound division, Cineliz ‘Lola’ Figueroa from Dorado claimed victory by split decision in a competitive bout against Jennieliz Aguirre from Camuy.

In what seemed like an intense chess game, Humacao’s Génesis López defeated Adamaris González from Salinas by unanimous decision in the 106-pound weight class.

Milady Santana from Humacao won an entertaining fight against Paola ‘La Guerera’ Rivera from Barranquitas by unanimous decision in a match set at 114 pounds.

San Juan’s Delila Magaña and Génesis Sella from San Germán provided a technical bout, but Magaña’s aggression midway through the fight was a factor in her victory by unanimous decision in a contest scheduled at 132 pounds.

To top off the night on a high note, Shenille ‘La Callada’ Class from Vega Baja triumphed in a competitive duel against Tayshka ‘La Rusa’ González from San Juan via unanimous decision in the 138-pound weight class.

The winners received a special WBO belt called ‘Future Champion,’ a trophy related to the seven-division world champion, monetary compensation, and gift cards from Econo supermarkets for all participants in the event. The other participants also received a medal from the organization.

The fights were broadcast live on the WBO’s YouTube channel (youtube.com/@WorldBoxingOrg), as well as on the WBO’s Facebook pages (facebook.com/worldboxingorg) and Wapa Deportes, in addition to the Wapa.TV mobile app.

We thank our sponsors: the Department of Recreation and Sports, Amanda Serrano, the Puerto Rican Boxing Federation, Wapa Deportes, Wapa Digital, Boxing Bullies, Casino Metro, Metrobets with Caesars Sportsbook, and the T-Mobile District.

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Volleyball is scheduled to compete in the inaugural Shriners Children’s ‘Showdown at the Net’ on Wednesday, Sept. 10 against Louisville as part of the ACC/SEC Clash at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. As part of the challenge series, the Shriners Children’s ‘Showdown at the Net’ will include Texas, Louisville, Pitt and Kentucky. The Longhorns and Cardinals match will be streamed live on ESPN at 8 p.m. CT.

“This is an exciting time for our sport and this matchup will be one the fans don’t want to miss,” Texas head coach Jerritt Elliott said. “This is the fastest growing sport, and with these high-level matchups we continue to see across the NCAA, it will only get bigger.”

September’s match will be just the sixth meeting between the two historic programs with Texas holding the 4-1 advantage. The last time the two teams met was in the 2022 NCAA Championship match where Texas went on to win its first of two back-to-back titles. The Longhorns swept the Cardinal, 3-0 and earned its fourth national title and first since 2012.

Louisville went back to the NCAA Championship last season and finished as the runner-up to Penn State.

Along with the four-team “Showdown”, the remainder of the squads across the two leagues will face off in an SEC/ACC Challenge with matchups featured on ESPN2, SEC Network, ACC Network, SEC Network+ and ACCNX.

Tickets for the Fort Worth event are set to go on-sale early this summer, but fans are encouraged to sign up for pre-sale alerts via www.showdownatthenet.com.

Shriners Children’s Hospital serves as the title sponsor of the event taking place at Dickies Arena, adding to their portfolio of ESPN Events.

SAN FRANCISCO – Ryann Neushul has been named one of three finalists for the prestigious Peter J. Cutino Award, established in 1999 and presented annually to the most outstanding female collegiate water polo player in the nation as voted by NCAA Division I coaches.

Neushul is joined by finalists Emily Ausmus and Tilly Kearns from USC. The winner will be announced at the annual Cutino Awards Dinner to be held Saturday, June 7, at The Olympic Club in San Francisco. The ceremony will be live streamed at Overnght.com.

Seven Cardinal players have combined to win the award 10 times: Aria Fischer (2023), Makenzie Fischer (2019, 2022), Kiley Neushul (2012, 2015), Annika Dries (2011, 2014), Melissa Seidemann (2013), Jackie Frank (2003) and Brenda Villa (2002).

Neushul, who recently closed out a unique seven-year career which began as a freshman in 2019, became Stanford’s first four-time NCAA champion in school history (2019, 2022-23, 2025) following the Cardinal’s 11-7 victory over USC in the NCAA final on May 11.

One year after taking a leave of absence and redshirt year to train and compete with Team USA at the Paris Summer Olympics, Neushul returned for a seventh season and fueled the Cardinal’s 10th NCAA championship in school history and third over the last four years.

Named to both the NCAA All-Tournament Team and MPSF All-Tournament Team, Neushul started all 26 games in 2025. She led the Cardinal in multi-goal games (20) while ranking second in goals (60), assists (39) and shot attempts (105). Neushul departed The Farm with 228 career goals, ranking fifth all-time in school history.

Following in the footsteps of older sisters, Kiley and Jamie, Neushul was recognized as Stanford’s eighth MPSF Player of the Year while also earning all-conference accolades for the fourth time in her career. Neushul was also the second student-athlete in MPSF history to earn both a player of the year and newcomer of the year honor (2019), joining UCLA’s Maddie Musselman.

A three-time ACWPC All-American (2019, 2022-23), Neushul is likely to earn a fourth honor in the coming weeks in addition to being a strong contender for ACWPC National Player of the Year.

A three-time ACWPC All-Academic honoree and three-time MPSF All-Academic selection, Neushul is once again on track for more scholastic honors as she boasts a 3.78 GPA in human biology. Neushul serves as a teaching assistant for an on-campus Spanish service learning course and participates in the Bridge Peer Counseling Center, Stanford’s student-run peer counseling center.
