AB Motorsports and its FAB Machining division have partnered with Centroid Corporation’s Centroid Performance Racing Division for the addition of a Centroid 5-Axis CNC Machining Center that will operate from the team’s central Indiana race shop, team owner and four-time NHRA world champion Antron Brown announced.

Always aspiring to elevate to the next level and expand his operation and its capabilities, Brown has been steadily adding to the AB Motorsports program since its on-track debut in 2022. In its first year, Brown, serving as both the owner and driver of the Matco Tools dragster, went on to win three races en route to a second-place finish in the NHRA Mission Foods Series Top Fuel standings. In year two, ABM added its Pit-Side Experience trackside hospitality program that hosts thousands of guests annually at the NHRA Mission Foods Series races and launched the ABM Accelerate development program with Angelle Sampey racing an A/Fuel dragster in NHRA’s competitive Top Alcohol dragster category. Last fall, ABM announced the addition of its FAB Machining machine services division, and added a Top Fuel dragster show car program to its portfolio this spring.

“This is something we’ve been working on for a long time and we’re super excited to announce our partnership with Joseph McCulloch (Centroid co-owner and chief executive officer), John Roe (Centroid co-owner and president), and John Cowher (Centroid general manager and sales manager for performance racing), and the team at Centroid and take delivery of the new 5-Axis machine to continue to grow FAB Machining,” Brown said. “I have to thank Mike Ditzel at Hangsterfer’s Metalworking Lubricants for nurturing this connection with Centroid and this truly is an addition that can take ABM to the next level in terms of performance.”

FAB Machining offers a variety of machining services including water jet cutting, mig and tig welding, press brake services, CNC milling and lathe work, parts tumbling, and metal shear. With the addition of the A560 XL 5-Axis Machining Center, FAB can now repair cylinder heads and blocks, explore cylinder head improvement, and produce several race car components that are currently purchased from outside vendors.

“This is a great addition to FAB Machining and now there’s very little we can’t machine and produce with this 5-Axis Machine,” Mike Anderson, FAB Machining head programmer said. “Centroid specializes in working with the racing industry and we’re excited to showcase one of their premier CNC centers at our Brownsburg (Ind.) facility in the heart of NHRA Drag Racing.”

The ABM-Centroid relationship stemmed from a B2B partnership with Hangsterfer’s Laboratories and is a perfect marriage as a significant number of Centroid’s client base is involved in motorsports and located near ABM’s headquarters outside of Indianapolis, the Racing Capital of the World. All Centroid machines are filled with Hangsterfer’s cutting fluid and ship globally with a supply of Hangsterfer’s.

“Centroid machines are built for the performance racing industry and this is a relationship that has been developing for a few years from an introduction at the PRI (Performance Racing Industry) Show in Indianapolis each winter, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to help wed Antron and ABM with Centroid,” Mike Ditzel, Hangsterfer’s global director of motorsports performance products, said. “I foresee many teams and vendors stopping by ABM’s FAB Machining Center for some show-and-tell and to see what these Centroid CNC Centers can offer. This is another successful B2B relationship developed from auto racing and, specifically, NHRA Drag Racing.”

Headquartered in Howard, Pennsylvania since 1979, Centroid has 46 years of CNC experience designing and manufacturing CNC Controls for milling machines, lathes, routers, and just about any application that requires a CNC control for OEM machinery, and retrofits, regardless of the machine tool manufacturer. In recent years, Centroid developed controls for the DIY retrofit market. In 2005, Centroid released their first 5-axis CNC machining centers specifically for cylinder head porting, engine block work and all types of parts, as well as 4-axis machine tools for engine block and rebuilding parts. Race shops and engine rebuilders around the world have discovered the Centroid advantage, which offers complete turn-key packages that reliably produce the most powerful racing-winning engines and cylinder heads, in all racing venues on the market worldwide.

“Centroid Corporation is super excited to build on our relationship with ABM and FAB Machining, as we have with Hangsterfer’s,” said Cowher. “We have been working together for a while, and the time has come to build on this wonderful opportunity that Antron Brown, his team, and Hangsterfer’s have given us with the addition of the A560XL Port/Block turnkey system. We look forward to helping ABM and FAB Machining’s Mike Anderson be the best machine shop it can be. The Centroid A560XL Port/Block Turnkey System, and the Centroid team’s support will certainly help them be in control of their shop. If you can dream it, you can cut it with a Centroid.”

Beginning with the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Motor Speedway on May 25, five NASCAR Cup Series races will be shown exclusively on a streaming service for the first time in NASCAR history.

Prime Video will broadcast the Coca-Cola 600, Nashville, Michigan, Mexico City and Pocono in a stretch of races from May 25 to June 22.

Joining lap-by-lap announcer Adam Alexander and former crew chief Steve Letarte in the broadcast booth for Prime Video’s coverage will be NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr., who returns to the booth after a one-year absence.

Earnhardt Jr. was a color commentator for NBC from 2018-23, and joins both Prime Video and Turner Sports for a total of 10 races this season.

As fans prepare to switch over to Prime Video to watch Cup Series racing, Earnhardt Jr. expects the transition to be a relatively easy one.

“I don’t know that it’s going to be that big of a transition (for fans),” Earnhardt Jr. said in a virtual news conference on Wednesday. “It’ll probably happen pretty seamlessly and quick.”

In 2022, Prime Video became the exclusive home of “Thursday Night Football.” Earnhardt Jr. says the “TNF” broadcasts are a good representation of what fans can expect from the streaming service’s maiden voyage of NASCAR coverage.

“I would say you can look at the ‘Thursday Night Football’ coverage, and all the bells and whistles,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “That would be a good way to look at how Amazon’s race coverage might look and how it might differ somewhat.”

“At the same time, there will be a lot of things that are very traditional – a three-man booth, the faces you may see. There will be some things that will be expected, but there will be some new technology to show some data and information for our fans that are watching.”

In a similar fashion to how the CW covered the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series playoffs in anticipation of every Xfinity Series race being televised on the CW in 2025, Prime Video has given fans a similar opportunity to get familiar with the service. Aside from the Clash, Daytona 500 and the upcoming All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro, Prime Video has been the carrier for Cup Series practice and qualifying through the first 12 races while using Fox Sports’ broadcast talent and production.

Prime Video will continue to cover practice and qualifying for the Cup Series during its five-race stretch of races.

“I’m excited about (the broadcast),” Earnhardt Jr. said. “I think all of the networks push each other to put good products out on Sunday. Amazon will bring some really cool ideas and ways of approaching the sport that will be better. I’m grateful to be a part of that team.”

Behind the scenes, work is already in full swing at all engine manufacturers for 2026, with Red Bull Powertrains and Ford no exception. Mark Rushbrook, boss of Ford Motorsport and Ford Performance, already stated that most internal goals are being met, although he emphasised that it’s impossible to hit all milestones straightaway. Rushbrook also acknowledged that the competition is difficult to gauge, although he shares Christian Horner’s view that Mercedes seems confident.

An equally significant variable for next year, as much as the competition, is the future of Max Verstappen. Although the Dutchman has a contract with Red Bull that runs until the end of 2028, his future remains a major talking point. The four-time world champion has been linked to Mercedes on many occasions – with Toto Wolff admitting in Zandvoort that talks were held until last year’s summer break – and Verstappen has also been linked to Aston Martin, where Adrian Newey is designing the 2026 car and Honda will join as engine supplier.

Verstappen is an important figurehead for Red Bull, and therefore Ford, but Rushbrook makes it clear that Ford’s commitment to the project is not dependent on one individual.

“Everywhere we race we want to have the best team with the best drivers and the best people. But did we sign the deal for any one person in particular? No, because we know that it’s a long-term deal and that those people are going to change. We knew that about Christian Horner, about Adrian Newey, about the drivers and some of them have changed already before we even got on the racetrack,” Rushbrook refers to Newey and Sergio Perez.

“Do we want to see Max stay in the Red Bull-Ford for 2026 and beyond? Of course. He’s a champion. He’s a great person and he elevates the entire team with him, but are we going to run away if Max leaves the team? No. We are committed.”

When asked if he fears Verstappen could leave the team, Rushbrooks smiles: “You like to use the word fear, don’t you? Again, I wouldn’t call it a fear, but we want to take the right actions to make sure that the team with Red Bull Powertrains-Ford continues to win races. As I said, all the people in the programme are an important part of that. So do you take actions to keep a driver like Max in there? You’re already taking those actions anyway because you want to win, but do you also keep a pulse on the people? Of course, so I guess the answer is yes [that we’d like to keep him].”

This is naturally because Rushbrook understands how important Verstappen is for the current competitiveness of the team, in both the drivers’ and the constructors’ championship. “He’s a champion for a reason. Obviously his talent, but also that he wants every part of the team and the programme to be the best it can be.”

Is the current Red Bull form reason for concern?

The bigger picture is that Rushbrook said last year that Ford wants to work with the best teams in all championships it takes part in. At the start of last season, Red Bull was still the dominant force in F1, but this is no longer the case. Is that a concerning prospect for the Blue Oval brand?

Read Also:

“We know that in all forms of motorsports, but especially in Formula 1, there are dynasties of teams that just win, win, and win. But then they go through spells where they don’t, so there’s always that ebb and flow. Do we want Red Bull to still be winning races at the end of last year and this year? Of course, but we know that the team still has great people who are capable of winning consistently.”

Having said that, the 2026 regulations will be the first major technical overhaul in Red Bull’s history that has to be taken on without Adrian Newey. It is another unknown, but Rushbrook makes clear that he has full confidence in the technical team that remains in place. “The feeling is still the same. A few weeks ago, we were in Milton Keynes and met with Pierre Wache and all the technical people. We still believe in the people, in the team that is there and in their ability to win races.”

Fox Sports is continuing its crossover with IndyCar by featuring two iconic athletes in the “Fastest Seat in Sports” at this year’s Indianapolis 500.

The “Fastest Seat in Sports” is a specially designed two-seat Indy car that takes ceremonial laps ahead of IndyCar races. This marks the first time since 2019 that the two-seater will lead the field before the Indy 500.

Tom Brady, Jimmie Johnson will lead Indy 500

Behind the wheel will be none other than seven-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson, teaming up with NFL analyst and former quarterback Tom Brady.

What they’re saying:

Johnson, who has 29 IndyCar starts under his belt, shared his excitement with FOX Sports.

“I love the Indy 500,” Johnson shared. “There is an energy and excitement around the 500 that is unlike anything I have experienced before.

He added: “Certainly, pre-race ceremonies are the ultimate racing experience that I’ve had outside of the car. I’m thrilled to be a part of the program and to see the stands full one more time. I’m extremely honored to come back and do it and to be able to also share this experience with another seven-time champion.”

How to watch ‘Fastest Seat in Sports’

What’s next:

Fox Sports is in its first year as IndyCar’s broadcast partner and has vowed to make the Indianapolis 500 its biggest televised event of the year.

It kicked off the season with baseball analyst Alex Rodriguez in the Fastest Seat in Sports at the opener in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The ride will occur just before the green flag, scheduled for 12:45 p.m. Eastern on May 25. The FOX coverage of the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500 begins at 10 a.m. Eastern.

Jimmy Johnson, Tom Brady’s careers

Dig deeper:

Johnson, who transitioned to IndyCar for two seasons after retiring from NASCAR, was named the Indy 500 top rookie in 2022.

A NASCAR Hall of Famer, Johnson spent 19 seasons behind the wheel of the No. 48 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports. He now serves as the majority owner of Legacy Motor Club, a NASCAR team that recently formed a partnership with Knighthead Capital Management—a private equity firm in which Tom Brady holds a stake.

After giving Brady his high-speed ride at the Indy 500, Johnson will fly to North Carolina to race in the Coca-Cola 600, marking his 700th career NASCAR start. Brady is expected to join him at the event.

Brady considered one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history with seven Super Bowl championships. He is also a five-time Super Bowl MVP, three-time Associated Press Most Valuable Player, 15-time Pro Bowler and the 2007 Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year.
