BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The indoor track and field squads for Alabama A&M University kicked off their season on Friday at the Birmingham Icebreaker held at the Crossplex.
 
Both teams showcased noteworthy performances during this inaugural meet of the season.
 
Women’s Track

  • Chelsea Whitehurst earned a sixth-place spot in the 60m hurdles finals after clocking a personal-best 8.90 in the preliminaries
  • In the 60m hurdles finals, Whitehurst secured seventh place with a time of 8.88
  • Laila Gaynor and Victoya Smith finished second and fifth respectively in the 300m, achieving times of 38.81 and a personal-best of 40.53

 
Women’s Field

  • Ajanae Cressey achieved a tenth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.44m
  • Amaya Mitchell-Howard came in ninth in the weight throw, recording a distance of 16.15m
  • Amber Jamison placed tenth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.31m

 
Men’s Track

  • Eric Barker qualified fifth in the 60m hurdles finals after running an 8.44 in the prelims
  • Barker finished fifth in the 60m hurdles finals, clocking a time of 8.42
  • The distance medley relay featuring Zachary Cooper, Talil Atkins, Turner, and Eric Brannon ended up third, with a time of 10:43.45, while Alabama A&M’s second team consisting of Caleb Roberts, Isaac Jackson, Lawrence Armstead, and Bravin Kibitok placed seventh with a time of 11:12.97

 
Men’s Field

  • Bruce Davis was seventh in the shot put with a throw of 15.10m 
  • In the long jump, Malachi Taylor and Olivier Jean took sixth and seventh places respectively, with jumps of 6.87m and 6.81m.

 
After the new year, Alabama A&M will return to competition as the Bulldogs are scheduled to participate in the UAB Blazer Invite on Jan. 11.
