On Lap 67 of the NASCAR Cup race at Michigan International Speedway, Hendrick Motorsports driver Alex Bowman was racing deep in the pack when he found himself in a bad situation. After contact from Cole Custer, he ended up slamming the outside wall in a head-on impact that lifted the rear tires off completely the ground. Bowman’s No. 48 Chevrolet hit the wall at roughly 150mph, immediately ending his race.
Bowman later described it as perhaps the biggest hit of his career. Unfortunately, the 32-year-old has a history of injuries. He suffered a concussion following a crash at Texas Motor Speedway in 2022, missing five races as a result. In 2023, he suffered a back injury in a sprint car crash that forced him to miss three Cup races.
Thankfully, Bowman has been medically cleared to race this weekend in Mexico City despite some soreness. The road course event is a big opportunity for Bowman as his most recent win in the Cup Series came at the Chicago Street Course last summer.

As a precaution, Hendrick will have Anthony Alfredo on standby for Bowman at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Alfredo, who competes full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, also works as a simulator driver for HMS. He has 42 starts in the Cup Series, including one start earlier this year at Talladega Superspeedway.
Bowman currently sits 13th in the championship standings after the first 15 races this year and is hoping for some positive momentum. He has finished 27th or worse in seven of the last nine races, including five finishes of 35th or worse in a dismal run for the No. 48 team.

Spire Motorsports punishes Carson Hocevar for derogatory comments about Mexico City
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Spire Motorsports fined Carson Hocevar $50,000 on Tuesday for derogatory comments he made about Mexico City on a live stream as NASCAR raced there last weekend. CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Spire Motorsports fined Carson Hocevar $50,000 on Tuesday for derogatory comments he made about Mexico City on a live stream as NASCAR raced there last weekend.
Hocevar walked back the comments Sunday night with an apology and the 22-year-old admitted it was the first time he’d ever been outside the United States and believed all the negative things he’d read and heard about Mexico City.
“I am embarrassed by my comments,” he posted in a lengthy apology.
Spire also ordered Hocevar to attend cultural-sensitivity and bias-awareness training.
Spire said the $50,000 fine will be donated in equal portions to three organizations that serve Mexican communities:
Cruz Roja Mexicana (Mexican Red Cross).
Un Kilo de Ayuda, a nonprofit combating childhood malnutrition and supporting early-childhood development in rural communities.
Fondo Unido México (United Way Mexico), which funds local NGOs that improve education, health, and housing in 22 Mexican states.
“These actions are consistent with Spire Motorsports’ core value of RESPECT, which is something we proudly display on every race car, team uniform, trackside hauler, and digital channel,” the team said in a statement. “Respect is not a slogan. It is a daily expectation that we ‘walk the walk’ in how we speak, compete, and serve the communities that welcome our sport.
“Carson Hocevar’s recent comments made during the livestream fell short of that standard. They did not represent the views of Spire Motorsports, our partners, or NASCAR. He has acknowledged his mistake publicly, and his prompt, sincere apology demonstrated personal accountability. We now take this additional step to underscore that words carry weight, and respect must be lived out loud.”
Spire said it informed NASCAR of Hocevar’s penalties and that it satisfied the sanctioning body’s requirements.
“Together we remain committed to showcasing NASCAR’s global growth, celebrating the passionate Mexican fanbase we experienced firsthand last weekend, and ensuring every member of our organization treats hosts, competitors, and communities with dignity,” Spire said.
“We look forward to turning the page by racing hard, representing our partners, and living our values on and off the track.”

Strong WWTR Race Draws Myles Rowe Closer to Elusive First Win

The second year for Myles Rowe in INDY NXT by Firestone is turning into a breakout season of consistency, determination and growth.
Those traits have catapulted him from a mid-pack rookie to a legitimate contender for victories.
The progress is evident. 2023 USF Pro 2000 champion Rowe delivered his best career INDY NXT finish by placing second last Sunday at World Wide Technology Raceway.
“Grateful to be on the podium,” Rowe said. “For sure, I wanted a little bit more, but Lochie (Hughes) came on quite surprisingly in the end.”
Starting fourth in the No. 99 ABEL/Force Indy machine, Rowe wasted no time asserting himself, moving into third on Lap 1. The Georgia native maintained third position for the first 59 laps before eventual race winner Lochie Hughes passed him when his No. 26 McGinley Clinic/USF Pro Championship car came alive while racing on a higher line on the 1.25-mile oval than the front-runners.
As Hughes climbed toward the lead, pole winner Caio Collet and points leader Dennis Hauger faded. The duo leaped out to a wide advantage but used too much of their Firestone Firehawk Racing Tires in that effort.
Hughes pounced. Rowe followed.
Rowe passed Hauger for third on Lap 65, then Collet for second three laps later.
He chased Hughes for the final seven laps but couldn’t catch him, finishing 4.3521 seconds back.
“He (Hughes) could make the high line work, especially in (Turns) 3-4, which was the hardest part of the track to make that high line work,” Rowe said. “With it naturally being a flat-out corner, being able to stay up there and keep your foot in it is very important. We were struggling with that.
“Looked like Lochie could do a bit better. He deservedly had the win. I’m so pleased.”
Rowe’s ability to adapt and capitalize on the missteps of front-runners like Hauger and Collet shows a level of racecraft that signals he’s ready for the next step – victory lane.
He emerged as a serious contender this season after a solid rookie season with HMD Motorsports in which he finished 11th in points. His move to ABEL Motorsports this offseason sparked a upswing in form. He is fourth in the standings, 87 points behind leader Hauger.
Rowe has recorded five top-four finishes in six starts, including three podiums in the last four. His consistency marks a sharp contrast to 2024, when his best result was fourth on the streets of Detroit, with just one additional top-five finish coming in Race 1 of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course weekend.
He opened 2025 by tying his career-best fourth-place result in St. Petersburg and repeating it the next race at Barber Motorsports Park. Rowe then broke new ground with back-to-back third-place finishes during the IMS road course doubleheader in May.
Adversity struck June 1 at Detroit with a first-lap incident, leaving him with an 18th-place result. His ability to rebound from the Detroit setback with a podium at WWTR is a testament to the mental fortitude that separates elite drivers from good ones.
Rowe gained seven points on Hauger last weekend, and his measured driving approach and increasing confidence make him a top candidate to become the next new winner in INDY NXT by Firestone. The next race is this Sunday, June 22 at Road America (11 a.m. ET, FS1, FOX Sports app and INDYCAR Radio Network).
He already made history by becoming the first African American driver to win a race in the USF2000 Championship, reaching victory lane at New Jersey Motorsports Park in 2021. Rowe climbed to USF Pro 2000 with Pabst Racing in 2023 and renewed support from Force Indy. He became the first African American driver to win a North American open-wheel championship.
The strong start to the 2025 season adds to his intense desire of becoming the first African American INDY NXT winner.
“Pressure makes diamonds, and I’m sure we’ll shine,” he said.

A stout weekend at Knoxville Raceway showcased a return to Victory Lane for Big Game Motorsports.
David Gravel advanced from eighth to win the opening night of a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader at the half-mile oval last Friday. It marked the team’s ninth triumph of the season.
Gravel was fifth quickest in his group during time trials before he advanced from third to second place in a heat race. That earned a spot in the dash and Gravel finished eighth to line up on the outside of the fourth row in the main event.
After quickly rocketing into the top five, Gravel methodically worked his way into the runner-up position before taking the lead on Lap 20. He pulled away in the closing laps to secure his 112 th career World of Outlaws win.
“I felt really good,” he said in a post-race interview on DIRTVision. “From Lap 5 to Lap 20 I felt awesome. In the beginning I was alright, and at the end I was feeling a little weird, but we were the best car there for 15 or 20 laps by far. We could move around, charge the corner hard on the bottom and carry speed. I’ve got to thank Cody (Jacobs), Zach (Patterson), and Pete (Stephens) and Scott (Vogelsong) this week for helping us out.”
Gravel was strong on Saturday as well. He timed in second quickest in his group and won a heat race. A sixth-place result in the dash started him on the outside of the third row in the A Main. Gravel’s car got stronger as the race went on and in the last 10 laps he advanced to second and closed on the leader. Gravel went for a last-ditch slide job in turns three and four, but was forced to check up to avoid contact. His second-place showing marked the team’s 20 th podium in 33 races this season.
“I felt really good,” he said in a post-race interview on DIRTVision. “I tried running the bottom a few times, and one time it really cost me a lot of time. Those last 10 laps I could really carry some speed through the corner. I wish I could take a couple laps back and gain some of that time back. Obviously, we had the fastest race car there at the end. These guys continue to give me fast race cars every single night, and it’s my job to get the win.”
Gravel used the strong weekend to build his lead in the World of Outlaws championship standings to 176 points.
Focus shifts to a home week for the team with Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D., hosting the $100,000-to-win Huset’s Hustle on Wednesday and Thursday followed by the $250,000-to-win BillionAuto.com Huset’s High Bank Nationals presented by Menards on Friday and Saturday.
Gravel won the then-record quarter-million payday at the track in 2023.
