All-girls soccer tournament held at new Salinas Regional Soccer Complex

Alisal achieved the initial goal on one of two new artificial turf fields, signifying the completion of Phase 2 at the Salinas Regional Soccer Complex. It’s a central point for the Salinas community. “I grew up playing on these fields starting at age 4, and they weren’t as well-maintained as they are now,” said Jonathan De Anda, the Salinas Regional Sports Authority general manager. “So witnessing our progress and creating a world-class facility is truly motivating.” Community members and leaders came out in support on Saturday morning, celebrating with music and taking part in the all-girls high school tournament, the She Kicks Classic, which is the first of its kind. “It showcases what we’re capable of and that we are not only enough but more than enough to accomplish things just as boys do because boys usually get prioritized,” Ariana Romero, a player at North Salinas High School, stated. “I think it’s essential to show girls that we count and are more than adequate.” The Salinas Regional Sports Authority has invested in the development of these new fields. Romero is enthusiastic about the future possibilities this complex will provide. “It’s where people can come and play, express themselves, and unwind, offering an outlet during overwhelming or stressful times; they can come here and find a sense of support or comfort,” she remarked. By next fall, Phase 3 of the project is set to be completed, featuring seven natural grass fields and a full-size sand court.
