Hulu Value Revealed as Disney Completes Deal With Comcast

The years-long saga over the fate of Hulu is officially resolved, with Disney set to pay Comcast $439 million to finally complete the sale of its 33 percent stake in the streaming service.

Back in 2023, Disney officially agreed to pay a floor of $8.61 billion for Comcast’s stake in Hulu, but the companies couldn’t agree on a final valuation for the stake, leading to an extended appraisal process.

Disney argued that the floor price would suffice as the final price, while Comcast argued that Hulu’s value was higher, and that Disney should pay it an additional $5 billion.

Related Stories

That process is now complete as of Monday, with a final price clearly much closer to Disney’s valuation than Comcast’s.

While Disney was able to take operational control of Hulu as it sorted out the value of Comcast’s stake, the completion of the deal will give the company more leeway to more fully integrate Hulu into its streaming offerings.

“We are pleased this is finally resolved,” Disney CEO Bob Iger said in a statement. “We have had a productive partnership with NBCUniversal, and we wish them the best of luck. Completing the Hulu acquisition paves the way for a deeper and more seamless integration of Hulu’s general entertainment content with Disney+ and, soon, with ESPN’s direct-to-consumer product, providing an unrivaled value proposition for consumers.”

Disney began integrating Hulu content into Disney+ in late 2023, and expanded that initiative last year.

Disney says that the full acquisition of Hulu will be completed by July 24, 2025.

Disney acquired a controlling stake in Hulu in connection with its acquisition of 21st Century Fox, but Comcast’s stake remained the big sticking point.

“Hulu was a great start for us in streaming that generated nearly $10 billion in proceeds for Comcast and created an important audience for NBCUniversal’s world-class content,” a Comcast spokesperson says. “We wish Disney well with Hulu and appreciate the cooperative way our teams managed the partnership.”

Alex Cooper accuses college soccer coach of sexual harassment

Alex Cooper has alleged that her BU soccer coach, Nancy Feldman, sexually harassed her while she played for her team. In her new Hulu docuseries, Call Her Alex, the Call Her Daddy podcaster claimed she noticed Feldman “really starting to fixate on me, way more than any other teammate of mine, and it was confusing,” per People. “[It] was all based in her wanting to know who I was dating, her making comments about my body and her always wanting to be alone with me,” Cooper continued in the doc, which premiered Sunday at the Tribeca Festival.

Throughout Cooper’s time on the team—from 2013 through 2015—Feldman allegedly commented on her legs, asked about her sex life, and put her hand on her thigh. “It was this psychotic game of, ‘You want to play? Tell me about your sex life,’” Cooper shared, claiming that Feldman asked her to get in a car with her alone on multiple occasions. “I felt so deeply uncomfortable,” added the podcaster.

When asked why she waited so long to speak out, Cooper explained that she was “attending BU on a full-tuition scholarship. If I didn’t follow this woman’s rules, I was gone.” She did tell her parents, who contacted lawyers. Those lawyers, however, allegedly warned Cooper’s family that the university would likely drag a case out for years. BU also allegedly refused to take action when Cooper’s parents provided written documentation of Feldman’s abuse. The coach retired in 2022.

While Cooper is “not ashamed” that it took her a decade to speak out, the process of working on the documentary made her “question a lot, and I think this documentary, as difficult as it was to explore, I actually think this is just the beginning.”

“The minute I stepped back on that field, I felt so small,” she recalled during a Q&A after the show. “I just felt like I was 18 years old again, and I was in a situation with someone in a position of power who abused their power, and I felt like I wasn’t the Call Her Daddy girl. I wasn’t someone who had money and influence or whatever. I was just another woman who experienced harassment on a level that changed my life forever and took away the thing I loved the most.” She added: “It’s really opened my eyes to how difficult the system is, and it’s so built against us as women.”

'Call Her Daddy' host Alex Cooper claims college soccer coach sexually harassed her

Popular podcaster Alex Cooper claims in a new docuseries that she was sexually harassed by her soccer coach during her time playing the sport at Boston University.

“Call Her Alex,” which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on Sunday and debuts on Hulu on Tuesday, chronicles the media figure’s ascent to stardom, detailing her early childhood in Pennsylvania and her journey to become one of the most influential podcasters.

In the two-part docuseries, which NBC News viewed screeners of, the “Call Her Daddy” host alleges that her former coach Nancy Feldman “fixated” on her, “wanting to know who I was dating … making comments on my body, and always wanting to be alone with me.”

Cooper played on the team from 2013-2015, according to the B.U. women’s soccer website. Feldman, who retired in 2022 after 27 years at the university, made comments about her appearance and her legs, Cooper alleges, and put her hand on Cooper’s thigh. She said Feldman also once questioned her about a date, asking if she had sex the night before.

“I felt so deeply uncomfortable,” she says in the docuseries, adding that she was attending B.U. on a full-tuition scholarship and felt if she “didn’t follow” Feldman’s rules, she’d be “gone.”

In the docuseries, Cooper’s mom says the family reached out to a lawyer who advised them to sue Feldman, but warned litigation could take years. Cooper said her parents reached out to B.U. to report the claims of sexual harassment. Her mom said she provided notes to B.U. that she took from her calls with Cooper over the years in which her daughter described the alleged incidents. The notes were shown in the docuseries.

Cooper claims she told B.U. she wanted to play her senior year but she couldn’t play for Feldman. The university, she alleges, said they told her they wouldn’t be conducting an investigation and said they wouldn’t fire Feldman. They said Cooper could keep her scholarship even if she didn’t play her senior year.

“Within five minutes, they had entirely dismissed everything I had been through,” Cooper said.

Feldman and a representative for Boston University did not respond to requests for comment made on Monday. A spokesperson for Cooper said she is not commenting further.

The docuseries does not include a statement from the university or from Feldman.

During a Q&A with director Ry Russo-Young after the Tribeca screening, Cooper reflected on her decision to speak out 10 years after the alleged harassment.

In the years since she graduated, Cooper, now 30, has built a media empire. Her millions of listeners, nicknamed the “Daddy Gang,” consider her the go-to voice on relationships, dating and life in your 20s and 30s. In addition to her podcast, one of the most listened to on Spotify, she launched the Unwell Network, a subsidiary of the media company Trending, which she founded with her now-husband, Matt Kaplan, and a drink brand.

She said that while filming the documentary project she returned to B.U.’s campus for the first time, and she got emotional.

“At this point in the filming process, I was not sure I wanted to talk about this experience,” she said during the Q&A, according to People, which also shared a clip of the conversation on Instagram.

“The minute I stepped back on that field, I felt so small,” Cooper said. “I just felt like I was 18 years old again, and I was in a situation with someone in a position of power who abused their power, and I felt like I wasn’t the ‘Call Her Daddy’ girl. I wasn’t someone who had money and influence or whatever. I was just another woman who experienced harassment on a level that changed my life forever and took away the thing I loved the most.”

This is the first time Cooper has opened up about the allegations, though she has alluded to having a “traumatic experience” with a coach during her time on the team in the past. In a 2023 interview with Cosmopolitan magazine, she described a “specific thing” without mentioning what had happened, saying “it’s so personal to me and it took such a toll on my mental health.”

She said reconnecting with people she played soccer with, “who were around when things were happening,” had been “pretty cathartic” for her.

“I met up with one of my teammates in Santa Monica who I hadn’t seen since we graduated — we didn’t even say hi, we just both started crying,” she said. “There’s another woman that went through it with me, and we finally saw each other recently, and it’s just wild to talk about it together. Connecting with these other women with these scars, that’s the first step to me actually being like, “Oh my god, I’m feeling better.”

Cooper went to Boston University to play soccer for the Terriers from 2013-2015. She revealed in the documentary she left the team before her senior season. She appeared in 21 games for Boston University in her junior and sophomore seasons and played 19 in her freshman year.

As the film debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival on Sunday, Deadline reported that Cooper said she was sexually harassed by Feldman which led to her leaving the team.

Cooper said the alleged incidents started her sophomore year, claiming that Feldman started to focus more on her personal life than her sporting life. She said Feldman asked her questions about her sex life and would put her hand on her leg.

“I started to notice her really starting to fixate on me way more than any other teammate of mine,” she said in the documentary. “And it was confusing because the focus wasn’t like, ‘You’re doing so well, let’s get you on the field, you’re gonna be a starter.’

“It was all based on (Feldman) wanting to know who I was dating, her making comments about my body and her always wanting to be alone with me.”

Cooper said she would try to avoid Feldman, but the coach would retaliate by cutting her playing time.

She reportedly opened up more about the incident in a question-and-answer session following the documentary’s debut.
