Another team title for Dutch women’s cross country squad

GRINNELL— A pair of freshmen on the Central College women’s cross country team bested the field by almost 30 seconds to guide the Dutch to the Les Duke Invitational team title Saturday morning.
           
Running on the Grinnell College Golf Course’s 6,000-meter course, Central totaled 22 points to best the host Pioneers runner-up total of 33 points.
           
Maddy Stevens (Grimes, Dallas Center-Grimes HS led Central for the second week in a row with a time of 23 minutes, 23.1 seconds. Classmate Breckyn Peterson (Glenwood) was right behind her in 23:25.7, finishing second.
           
All five of Central’s scorers were in the top 10 as Kyra Cordes (freshman, Marion) was fifth (25:06.4), Teah Miller (junior, Iowa Falls, Iowa Falls-Alden HS) was sixth (24:10.4) and Olivia Primrose (freshman Palo, Vinton-Shellsburg HS) was eighth (24:39.8).
           
Additionally, Brynn Wilson (freshman, Huxley, Ballard HS) was 12th (25:08.0) and Leah Bontrager (senior, Wellman, Hillcrest Academy) was 13th (25:18.1),
           
Central hosts the Dutch Open on Friday, September 26 amidst Central’s Homecoming weekend activities.
