The NCAA allows college football teams to 15 spring practices, with live contact permitted twice per week and not on consecutive days. Full-contact practices are limited, and some is allowed for teaching blocking techniques.The Black Knights are coming off an historic season where they won a record 12 games; won the American Athletic Conference regular-season and playoff titles in their first year of membership; and, beat Louisiana Tech in the Independence Bowl.Saturday, Aug. 30 – vs. Tarleton State
Spring workouts have long been a springboard for the ensuing fall season. Summer workouts are expected to begin in late July, with the season opener scheduled for August 30 against Tarleton State.

It is also typical of veteran quarterbacks and other players to wear red jerseys to indicate they are not to be tackled, again, to reduce risk of injury. Freshmen do not report to the Academy until July 1, and will join the veterans once Beast Barracks summer training is concluded.
