BOISE, Idaho – National voters took notice of Ashton Jeanty’s dominant 2024 campaign, crowning him the winner of the 35th Doak Walker Award and the 88th Maxwell Award at Thursday’s ESPN Home Depot Awards Show. The Doak Walker Award is presented annually to the nation’s premier running back and the Maxwell Award is given to the player of the year.

He is the first player to earn both awards since Derrick Henry (Alabama, 2015) and the only Group of 5 player to earn both in the same season. He is also the first Boise State player to win each other award. The last G5 running back to earn the Doak Walker Award was Luke Staley (BYU, 2001). The last G5 player to win the Maxwell Award was Ty Detmer (BYU, 1990). Eight of the previous 10 Maxwell Award winners have also won the Heisman Trophy. Jeanty is one of four Heisman finalists.

Jeanty has outrushed 115 FBS teams this season, tallying 2,497 rushing yards, which ranks fourth in FBS single-season history. He is tied for first in the nation with 29 rushing touchdowns, equaling or eclipsing the total of 118 teams. The junior has 1,889 yards after contact, which is more than the total rushing number of any FBS player since 2019. He set the country’s single-season record for missed tackles forced (143) and holds the nation’s highest Pro Football Focus rushing grade (97.1).

Jeanty runs against loaded boxes more than anyone in the country, totaling 226 attempts against 7+ box defenders. In those rushes, he averages 6.9 yards per carry and has scored 25 touchdowns. He averages over 100 yards per half played and has passed the century mark in 17 halves. He is more likely to gain 20+ yards than lose yards, recording 24 runs of 20+ yards and losing yards 23 times.

The Lone Star HS product is the best in the country at finishing games. He leads the nation in numerous fourth quarter rushing categories, including yards (679), touchdowns (9), first downs (29), 10+ yard gains (21) and 20+ yard gains (6). He is the 2024 MW Offensive Player of the Year and a unanimous All-MW first team selection. He was recognized as the Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week four times, Walter Camp National Player of the Week once and MW Offensive Player of the Week six times.
