BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — It would not be a complete Otsego basketball game without a few dunks from Kaidyn Hutton.

A fierce competitor by nature, Hutton is a driving factor of why the Knights remain undefeated in the Northern Buckeye Conference.
“It doesn’t matter if he’s playing chess or basketball, he wants to win no matter what,” Carroll said. “That competitiveness in our drills and in games has carried over to our younger kids and I think we’re seeing it throughout our whole program.”
“I sit with my team, so it’s kind of cool to see how they play and how we play kind of goes into that.”
The senior forward averages 24 points a game, but still makes sure the show is not all about him.
Otsego basketball has been entertaining to watch this season with a stacked roster of players like Kaidyn Hutton. But his impact goes beyond the court.
And despite graduation being just a few months away, Hutton has already established how he will be remembered.
“Probably just his dunks, definitely, and how good he was,” said Otsego ball boy and Carroll’s son, Jace Carroll. “He scores a lot and he’s also nice, cool, fun.
Jace and his friends sit in the front row of the bleachers at every Otsego basketball game. Because of that, Hutton’s impact goes both ways when it comes to his outlook on the game.
“My football season was cut short, so having a season like this, it really makes up for it,” Hutton said. “I want to finish out just keep doing what I’m doing and then I want to win the league undefeated. I don’t want to lose.”
Carroll said Hutton is the type of athlete who strives to win in everything he does.
The final stretch of the regular season still remains though, with seven games left for the Knights.
“We are at our best when he’s a distributor first and then a scorer. And he’s leading us in assists right now because he’s trying to get his teammates involved,” said Knights head coach Steve Carroll. “And I think the more he’s trying to do that, when teams have to play off of him a little bit, that just opens the door up to score more.”
“I hope it keeps those younger guys that sit in the front row … interested in the game and willing to work through the program and put in that work so eventually hopefully do something like this,” he said. “It really helps to keep me pushing really hard, ’cause they’re always watching, they’re always looking. You’re the role model, so, put on a show.”
