Austin College Volleyball hosts Kangaroo ID Camp Thursday

SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) – Austin college volleyball hosting their Kangaroo ID camp today.

The camp which started back in 1996 with just one camper, has now grown to 32 players in 2025. Players making the trip to Hughey gymnasium in Sherman to build on their game.

And one day, potentially join head coach Ed Garza and his team at Austin College.

“This camp is more for kids who are interested in Austin College,” says Head Coach Ed Garza. “We recruit a certain type of kid that fits our profile, very strong academics, very diverse in a lot of different things, Volleyball just happens to be one of those things they like.”

“These coaches have coached so many kids, they are so knowledgeable,” says former Pottsboro Volleyball player Madison Hartsfield, Hartsfield is entering her Freshman season at Austin College. “You get a lot of different perspectives, sometimes it clicks with you like with Coach Graham and Coach Garza, they just coach in the right way for me.”

“It’s important so I can get better, and get more touches,” says Gunter Sophomore London McDonald. “It also gives us an opportunity to check out the college, what goes into recruiting, and picking a school to go to.”

“I think it’s important to be here in the offseason because it gives you an opportunity to meet new coaches,” says Whitesboro Sophomore Karina Riddle. “You can see the opportunities that being in a different place can serve you during the actual season.”
