Austin High sweeps past Lake Travis, Westlake

Last Friday night was a huge one in Central Texas volleyball as three top Austin-area matches had unbeaten district co-leaders playing each other:

• Austin High swept Lake Travis in District 26-6A.

Around Class 6A

Round Rock unloaded on Bowie 25-8, 25-7, 25-7 to improve to 28-8 with its sixth straight win and 12th in its last 15 matches, which includes two losses at Volleypelzza to nationally ranked opponents. Aubree Connelly led the Dragons with 11 kills while libero Isa Cordaway-Dreier had 10 digs. Nila Beauchamp finished with 13 assists and Trysta Ercoline had three blocks.

District 25-6A: Stony Point beat Westwood 27-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-20 as Taliah Angwekwe led the Tigers while Grace McCluskey anchored the Warriors’ attack. … In other district action, Vandegrift and Vista Ridge won over Hutto and Manor. … Westwood beat Cedar Ridge 25-22, 25-23, 25-19 as McCluskey had 13 kills and both Caroline Miller and Piper Evans added nine each. 

District 26-6A: Austin High, which is ranked No. 3 in the state, swept Westlake 25-11, 25-12, 25-17 last Tuesday and then swept past Lake Travis 28-26, 25-18, 25-23 on Friday behind USC pledge Riley Malloy’s 19 kills. She hit .432. Maggie McCarroll added seven kills and 15 assists. Westlake continues to struggle as injuries are impacting the lineup. … Dripping Springs swept the Chaps Friday night and the Tigers play Lake Travis Tuesday.

Class 5A

Glenn sweeps Lehman: Jennah Lee doubled up with 11 kills and 12 digs while Leticia Flores smacked 16 kills as Glenn swept Lehman 25-12, 25-15, 25-13. Briley Camp had 23 assists in the Grizzlies’ win while Grace Phelan added 11 assists and Milan Benavides notched 13 digs. … And Georgetown topped Hendrickson in a non-district match 20-25, 14-25, 25-17, 25-20, 15-12. Makenna Stengle had 11 kills and Mallory Miller added nine for the Eagles. Kenna Braden had 20 assists for the Hawks, who also got 12 kills and 14 assists from Kendal Roberson.

Cedar Park sweeps Liberty Hill: Joy Udoye slammed 21 kills as Cedar Park won in three over Liberty Hill 25-22, 25-19, 25-22. Mya Cheatum added 11 kills for the Timberwolves, who got four blocks from Sienna Benavides and three blocks and 14 digs by Sibley Oster. Anna Kurz led the defense with 19 digs.

“I am super proud of our team,” Timberwolves coach Lori McLaughlin said. “It was a great win and super team effort.”

Anderson wins two: Anderson sophomore Chloe Frizzell pounded 13 kills with eight digs, three aces and two blocks as the Trojans dropped the firsts set to McCallum before rallying to win 21-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-18. Kate Leakey had 10 kills with five digs and two aces while Piper Poage had a double-double with 11 kill and 23 digs. Elaine Harrison collected 20 assists and Julyana Harris had five kills on eight swings with no hitting errors and added two blocks. Lexi Rosenblatt ahd 20 assists for McCallum while Piper Adair served nine aces, Kafia Jackson-Woods had seven kills and Aaniyah Thornton notched 13 digs.

Around Class 4A

Defending Class 4A champion Wimberley beat defending Class 2A champion Johnson City 25-17, 25-14, 20-25, 25-17 behind 12 kills and 15 digs by Lilli Sandoval and 33 assists from Skylar Herring.
