San Diego State currently leads Detroit Mercy 2-1 in the all-time series. The last matchup between the two programs was on Feb. 26, 2017, which the Aztecs won 18-7. Head Coach Kylee White’s 2013 squad also earned a 14-6 victory over the Titans on April 1, 2013. Detroit Mercy defeated San Diego State 18-16 in the inaugural Aztec lacrosse season in 2012.
SAN DIEGO – San Diego State lacrosse is set for its official 2025 opener this weekend, heading to Michigan for the first two games of the regular season. On Friday, the Aztecs will take the field at 11 a.m. PT against the Detroit Mercy Titans at the UWM Sports Complex. The team will then head down the road to Ypsilanti where they will face Eastern Michigan on Sunday at 9 a.m. PT.
The Aztecs unofficially kicked off their 2025 campaign in an exhibition victory over Pomona-Pitzer. The offense was led by sophomore Frankie Garcia, who recorded six goals. The Scarlet and Black will return to The Mesa for the official home opener against Denver on Feb. 23 at noon, following a second road trip to South Carolina where they will play Winthrop (Feb. 14) and Wofford (Feb. 16).
Led by Head Coach Alexa Matta in her second year, the Titans are coming off a 6-12 2024 season record. They finished the year as the Mid-American Conference runner-up with a 3-3 record and were picked fifth in this year’s preseason poll. The program returns eight starters and 14 letterwinners, including All-MAC Second Team honorees Leah Bodnar, Maddy Camm and Alyssa Jarvis.
In their second game of the first road trip of the season, the Aztecs will take on the Eagles of Eastern Michigan. This will be the first meeting between the two programs. Led by last year’s Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year, Maddie Dugan, the Eagles were picked third in the MAC preseason poll coming off a 7-9 overall record and 4-2 conference record in 2024.
