Baseball to Host Four-Team NCAA Regional

BRIDGEWATER, Mass.  The Bridgewater State University baseball team will begin NCAA Division III Tournament play on Friday, May 16th as the Bears will host a four-team regional at Alumni Park.

The Bears (30-13) are the number four seed in the regional and will take on top-seeded Endicott College (38-4) on Friday morning at 10:00 AM.

The four-team, double-elimination Bridgewater Regional will take place from Friday, May 16th to Sunday, May 18th at Alumni Park. #2 seed Concordia University (Texas) (33-11) and third-seeded Oswego State (27-13) round out the four teams at the regional as the Tornados and the Lakers will meet in the other first round matchup on Friday afternoon at 1:30 PM.

Under the direction of Head Coach Greg Zackrison, the Bears (30-13) are making the program’s fourth straight NCAA Division III Tournament appearance and 18th overall. Bridgewater captured the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Tournament championship this past weekend to earn an automatic qualifier (AQ) to the NCAAs.

Bridgewater also made four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances from 1989 to 1992 and six straight from 1996 to 2001. The Bears made back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament in 2003 and 2004 as well as in 2011 and 2012. The 1996 team won the New England Regional and finished third at the World Series, while the 1997 squad captured the Mid-Atlantic Regional title and placed seventh at the finals.

Endicott is ranked third in the most recent Collegiate Baseball/American Baseball Coaches Association Division III Poll and fourth in the D3baseball.com Poll. The Gulls (38-4) won the inaugural Conference of New England (CNE) title and the fourth straight conference championship (tenth overall) to earn the automatic qualifier.

Concordia earned at an large bit into the NCAA Tournament. The Tornados were ranked 19th in the most recent ABCA Poll and 20th in the D3baseball.com Poll. Concordia dropped a tough 2-1 decision to #1 ranked Trinity University (Texas) in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Tournament championship round.

Oswego State also garnered an at large bid into the NCAA Tournament. The Lakers won their opening game of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament before dropping a 2-1 decision to #30 Cortland State in the second round and bowing out of the tournament with a 3-1 setback to Oneonta State.

A total of 64 teams will be competing in the 2025 NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament. The 64 teams will compete at 16 four-team regional sites. The four-team regionals will use a double-elimination format. Forty-one conference champions qualified automatically.

Winners of the sixteen regional tournaments will qualify for eight, best-of-three series at the super regionals, Friday-Saturday, May 23-24. The eight super regional winners will then qualify for the pool play double-elimination championship at Classic Auto Group Park in Eastlake, Ohio, Friday-Thursday, May 30 to June 5.
