FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team will make the short trek to New Haven, Conn., for a midweek clash with the Yale Bulldogs on Yale Field on Tuesday at 3pm. The two teams were originally supposed to compete on Wednesday but a schedule change moved the game up one day. Fairfield will bring a seven-game winning streak into the contest, tying for the fourth-longest streak in the nation.
Fairfield won all five of their games last week, highlighted by a three-game sweep at Canisius clinching their 22nd-straight conference series win. Fairfield plated double-digit runs in all three games, the first time they have accomplished that feat since the final series of the 2023 season.
The Stags plated 41 runs in their three-game series while combining for a .350 team batting average. Six different players recorded an average of .300 or higher, led by Tyler Kipp who maintained a .538 clip. Kipp’s grand slam started a seven-run ninth inning in the finale, turning a slim 4-3 lead into a comfortable advantage.
Fairfield actually hit two grand slams in the series with Luke Nomura’s slam capping a nine-run first inning in the opener, a game where the Stags would score 18.
On the mound, eight of the 11 pitchers the Stags used did not allow a run in their appearance as the staff combined for a 2.00 ERA and a .196 opponent’s batting average. All three of the Fairfield starters picked up a victory while each going at least five innings.
The Stags were also aggressive on the base paths with 11 stolen bases with Matthew Bucciero leading the squad with four swipes.
Yale brings a 15-7 record into the midweek after taking two of three from Harvard over the weekend. Jake Williams is the team’s leading hitter with a .364 average, one of six Bulldogs batting over .300.
Fairfield will next host crosstown rival Sacred Heart in their first series as a MAAC foe at Don and Chris Cook Field for a three-game set starting Friday at 3pm.
