Taliqua Clancy, a talented beach volleyball athlete, broke new ground as the first Indigenous Australian to participate in Olympic volleyball. She earned a silver medal at the 2020 Olympics alongside her teammate Mariafe Artacho del Solar and is currently taking part in the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour. Recently, she shared a snapshot of herself making a spike on Instagram, with the caption, “Back on tour 😃 with @georgia_johnson. 7th Place at Haikou Challenger 🇨🇳.” Clancy exemplifies excellence both on the court and in her dedication to health and wellness.
In an interview with Body + Soul, Clancy revealed some of her wellness tips. She emphasizes the importance of consistency in her fitness routine, particularly during the offseasons. “It becomes a bit more challenging [to train] when we’re traveling, so that maintenance and rehab we engage in during the preseason is crucial. I believe winter is actually the key season for staying active. Not only for your physical ambitions but also for your mental wellbeing.”
Clancy aspires to be a source of inspiration for her community. She discussed her identity as an Indigenous athlete with Body + Soul. “When I competed in my first Olympics, I truly understood how significant it was for my community. Having that representation of our people succeeding is incredibly vital. If that encourages [young Indigenous Australians] to pursue sports, that’s fantastic. But if it merely assists them in excelling in any path they choose in life, that’s equally wonderful.”
In her interview with Body + Soul, Clancy addressed her dietary habits. She advocates for a balanced approach. “If you crave that cozy winter snack, [go ahead]. But it’s all about maintaining balance. It’s essential to consume good, healthy sources of protein, so [opt for] protein powders and protein snacks. [And] I certainly allow myself time to unwind. It’s perfectly fine to enjoy a glass of wine with dinner.”
Since Clancy participates in beach volleyball, she enjoys exercising with others. She shared with Body + Soul that she prefers going to the gym with friends. “I think it’s beneficial to have someone hold you accountable. It can be a great help on those challenging days. I’ve always felt a stronger connection to team sports because I appreciate working out alongside someone.”
Clancy posted this image on Instagram of herself trekking in Switzerland. As noted by Piedmont, hiking offers numerous health advantages. “Ascending and descending hills elevates the heart rate, providing a fantastic cardiovascular workout. Like many cardio activities, hiking helps lower your chances of facing heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and even certain types of cancer.”
