Playing at the cornerback spot on the football team, Cody senior Jarom Beardall will head east after graduation to continue his career on the gridiron.
Beardall has accepted a scholarship offer to play at Valley City State University, a four-year school in Valley City, North Dakota. While the football coach was going over Beardall’s tapes, the track and field coach got a look and he will also be a long jumper in college.
“I sent film to different coaches and a couple of weeks later, the Valley State coach called me with a scholarship offer,” Beardall said of the recruiting process. “You get full tuition if you’re a starter and half tuition if a backup. Their track coach saw my tape and said I’d already be competing for a conference title, so he offered me more money to jump.”
Although he will be competing in the track and field event at college, just like this past week at the Class 3A Meet in Wyoming, the real focus is football. Beardall loves to read the quarterback’s eyes and jump in the route for an interception. He had a few of those during his senior season for the Cody Broncs.
Beardall is just the latest member of this past season’s team to get college scholarship offers. Making it to the state championship game during his high school years, he knows what it takes to win on the football field.
“It was fun being a Broncs football player, they gave me the chance to get to play in college,” Beardall said. “It will be awesome to keep playing football after high school. I’m excited for the opportunity.”
Valley State plays in the Frontier Conference, so Beardall will likely see some of his former high school teammates in the upcoming seasons.
Beardall competed in the state track and field meet this past weekend, then it’s on to graduation later in the week and after that, he’ll start thinking about football. Fall camp for the Valley City State University football team starts on August 5.
