With one minute remaining, and the Rebels down 57-56, the Bronchos managed to rebound after a missed 3-pointer attempt by Moore.
Deary-Johnson was fouled while making an inside shot and he completed the three-point play for a 56-50 OHS lead with 4:01 left.
A 3-pointer by Jamar Shields made it 53-50 as Odessa High’s playoff spot was appearing to slip away.
Deary scored from outside the arc to give the Bronchos a 17-16 lead early in the second quarter.
“Lot of missed free throws on our end,” Lewis said of the fourth quarter. “They were able to get back into the game and we were able to get some rebounds and solidify the win.”
If it wasn’t the missed free throws, it was the turnovers that plagued Odessa High as a Broncho turnover with 1:24 gave Legacy a chance to take the lead.
“He had a tremendous game,” Lewis said. “He was able to lead us whenever we needed. When we needed a bucket, he was able to get one. He took control and was there whenever we needed him.”
It wasn’t just outside shots that Deary-Johnson was hitting.
Legacy’s Nic Moore scored a 3-pointer right before the end of the quarter and the Bronchos’ lead was cut to 50-38, heading into the fourth.
MIDLAND The Odessa High boys basketball team clinched the last playoff spot in District 2-6A by holding off a late Midland Legacy rally in a 60-57 victory Tuesday at the Chaparral Center.
Jtorian Deary-Johnson layup gave the Bronchos the lead right back at the 2:09 mark.
With both teams fighting for fourth place, the Bronchos (15-19 overall, 3-7 in District 2-6A) sent the Rebels packing and will now face El Paso Eastlake in the bi-district round next week on the road with the time and date yet to be determined.
Deary-Johnson’s 3-pointers kept coming as he added another outside shot, right in front of the Legacy bench, as Odessa High took a 28-22 lead with 1:30 left before halftime.
A Rodriguez free throw made it a one-point game with the Rebels still trailing.
Legacy began the second half with a quick basket by Tristine Turner.
Baldonando was sent to the line, where he made one of two shots before Rodriguez answered back with a 3-pointer to make it 57-54 with 2:12 remaining.
However, the Rebels’ long-awaited spark came at the start of the quarter, as a few quick baskets trimmed Odessa High’s lead to 50-31 with 6:40 left.
After picking up another foul, Deary-Johnson was sent to the line where he missed both with 2:52 left and the Bronchos only ahead by five.
There wasn’t much stopping Odessa High’s Jtorian Deary-Johnson as he finished the night with 39 points to lead the Bronchos, including seven 3-pointers.
Starling scored a transition basket and OHS answered right back on the other end of the floor to tie the game at 20 with 4:01 left.
Odessa High began the game on a promising run, taking a 6-2 lead in the opening minutes.
Deary-Johnson scored another 3-pointer and the Bronchos had a 36-26 lead as the Rebels called a timeout with 5:26 left in the third quarter.
Kobi Baldonado scored the final basket of the quarter as the Bronchos took a 30-24 lead into the half.
A basket by Rodriguez came off a transition and a missed OHS basket soon led to a layup by Zhaitry Walton.
He missed the second and OHS eventually came away with the loose ball with 3.86 seconds left and Deary-Johnson was fouled.
With 11.74 seconds remaining, Rodriguez was sent to the line where he made the first shot.

With desperation growing, the Rebels tried to find any spark on offense but struggled to get baskets to fall.
However, the Rebels responded with a quick 5-0 run to take a 7-6 lead with 2:33 left.
Late in the quarter, Deary-Johnson took an in-bound pass from Brillyant Adams and drove all the way to the basket for a layup and Odessa High had a 44-31 lead with 1:45 left.
Deary-Johnson added another outside shot for a five-point OHS advantage.
It was the Bronchos’ second win over the Rebels this season with Odessa High defeating Legacy 70-65 in the last meeting on Jan. 24 at OHS Fieldhouse.
Odessa High continued to capitalize by making its possessions count and soon led 50-35.
Legacy was led in scoring by Diego Rodriguez’s 19 points. Tristine Turner had 12 points and Jay Ja’varion Starling had 10.
Legacy ended the season at 18-14, 3-7.
Missed free throws continued to hurt OHS in the fourth as Jeremiah Lewis missed two free throws for the Bronchos with under two minutes to go.
Both teams traded baskets and the score was tied at 14 at the end of the first quarter.
Lewis was then fouled and sent to the line where he went 1-of-2 for a 58-56 OHS lead.
A blocked shot by the Rebels and a few OHS turnovers soon helped the Rebels back into the game.
An inside basket gave the Bronchos a 22-20 lead with 2:46 remaining.
It’s the Bronchos’ first trip back to the playoffs in two years.
Odessa High built a crucial 41-28 lead after another Deary-Johnson outside shot with 2:56 left.
“It means a lot to us,” Odessa High head coach Jermil Lewis said. “It means we have spirt and we’ve been working hard all year. We didn’t have much expectations since we were young but these guys put in a lot of work and were able to get that final playoff spot.”
He would sink both charities, giving the Bronchos 60-57 lead.
A dunk by Starling brought the Legacy supporters to life and the Rebels’ deficit was 52-47 with 4:30 remaining.
The Bronchos added a 3-pointer shortly after.
