Either way, the offseason is truly beginning in Charlottesville. While the ‘Hoos wait for their potential coaching candidates to finish their seasons with their respective teams, former Virginia commit Chance Mallory’s commitment decision looms as well. Plus, there should be more transfer portal news coming before long. As always, we’ll have all of it covered here on Streaking the Lawn.

The Idaho native played in his 66 games across his two years at UVA, starting in 28 and averaging 4.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1 block per game. He slid into the starting five spot for the ‘Hoos this past season and was often a weakness for the Cavaliers as he struggled to produce offensively – particularly as a finisher around the basket – and handle the size of ACC bigs defensively.
After two seasons in Charlottesville, Virginia Cavaliers center Blake Buchanan is entering the transfer portal. Jeff Goodman reported the news first, and Buchanan has promptly reposted said report on X/Twitter.
Virginia big man Blake Buchanan will enter the portal, his agent Adrian Autry Jr., of ProMondo Sports told @thefieldof68.
Buchanan is the first UVA player to enter the portal this spring, yet is unlikely to be the last as Tony Bennett’s retirement in October and Virginia’s decision to move on from interim head coach Ron Sanchez have the program heading in a new direction. With a coaching search well underway, many Wahoos will be hitting the open market. Some could be recruited back to Charlottesville by the next head coach. Buchanan may be best suited by a move down a level to a mid-major school where he could more effectively exploit his strengths.
