Broncos Place Second at Jeff Drenth Memorial

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. —  The Western Michigan cross country team placed second at the Jeff Drenth Memorial this morning. The Brown and Gold had six runners in the top 25, including four in the top 15. 

Lily Overton led the way, placing third with a time of 17:32.10. That was a PR time by more than 30 seconds. She was followed by Lara Machado Pereira, Kaelin Hughes and Madison Zarembski in 11th, 12th and 13th place, respectively. Machado Pereira had a PR time of 17:55.90, Hughes crossed the finish line in 17:57.00 and Zarembski also PR’d with a time of 17:58.70. 

Rounding out the scoring lineup was Rebekah Asselin, who concluded the race in a time of 18:10.70. That was a PR time and she placed 18th. Larissa McGrath, Lily Baibak Joy Evans and Lauren Sancrant were also great. They all finished in the top 40 of the race. 

McGrath had a time of 18:20.10, Baibak finished in a time of 18:46.70, Evans had a time of 19:09.00 and Sancrant secured a time of 19:13.50. Baibak and Evans were making their college debuts, while McGrath notched a PR.

The Broncos will be back in action on Sept. 19 for the George Dales Invite. The Broncos will host the event at The Prairies Golf Course.
