FLUSHING, N.Y. – The 2024-25 CUNYAC women’s basketball preseason poll recently revealed that Brooklyn College has been selected as the top team. The Bulldogs are set to pursue their fifth consecutive CUNYAC championship.
Brooklyn accumulated 27 points, narrowly surpassing Baruch with 25 points. John Jay (24), Hunter (22), and Lehman (14) complete the top five rankings.
The Bulldogs, who clinched the CUNYAC title in 2020 and have secured it each of the past three seasons, concluded last year with an 18-9 record and 12-2 in conference games, leading to their fourth consecutive title in 2023-24. They defeated John Jay 72-54 in the CUNYAC championship match.
The 2025 CUNYAC Women’s Basketball Championship will commence with two first-round matches on Saturday, February 22. The semifinals are scheduled for Tuesday, February 25, and the championship game will occur on Thursday, February 27, at Hunter College.

CUNYAC Women’s Basketball Players to Watch
Mia Castillo (Baruch) – Named last season’s CUNYAC Player of the Year, Castillo led NCAA Division III in scoring with an average of 27.4 points per game. She was also the national leader in steals, averaging 5.4 per contest.
Alina Estrella (Brooklyn) – A First Team CUNYAC All-Star for 2023-24, Estrella posted averages of 12.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per game during her inaugural season with the Bulldogs.
Kasia Morrison (CCNY) – Morrison played over 39 minutes per game for the Beavers last season, being one of two players to compete in every game. She averaged 12.9 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
Alexa Charles (Hunter) – A First Team CUNYAC All-Star last season, Charles averaged 24.6 points and 11.4 rebounds for the Hawks and earned CUNYAC Player of the Week honors seven times.
Ashley Zeolla (John Jay) – In 2023-24, Zeolla received recognition as a CUNYAC Second Team All-Star, averaging 9.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for the Bloodhounds.
Emily Kennedy (Lehman) – A transfer from BMCC, Kennedy averaged 20.6 points last season and is currently averaging 11.4 points per game after seven games in the 2024-25 season.
Sheily Quezada (Medgar Evers) – Quezada was honored as a CUNYAC First Team All-Star last season, leading Division III in blocks per game (4.95) while averaging 16.5 points and 13.6 rebounds per game.
Alicia Gumbs (York) – Gumbs achieved Second Team CUNYAC All-Star recognition in 2023-24, averaging 23.1 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game, playing 39.8 minutes per contest.
