Shannon Brown of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women’s swimming & diving team has been recognized as the Liberty League Swimmer of the Year.
Brown won a pair of individual events and anchored two winning relays for the Engineers at the 2025 Liberty League Championship en route to being named Swimmer of the Meet for the second straight year. She broke her own meet record set last year in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.38 seconds and in the 200-yard freestyle, she narrowly won the event by 0.06 seconds, touching the wall in 1:52.69.
She, along with teammates Sierra Pargett, Colleen Whittaker, and Vera Korff won the 200-yard freestyle relay by over two seconds with a NCAA B-cut and Liberty League record time of 1:34.24. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Brown, Pargett, Whitaker, and Elizabeth Rose recorded a victory with another NCAA B-cut and championship record time, 3:26.67. Brown was also the runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.17) and took part in RPI’s second-place 400-yard medley relay (3:51.74) and third-place 200-yard medley relay (1:46.48).
She qualified for the 2025 NCAA Division III Championship in both freestyle events as well as the 400-yard freestyle relay. She earned second team All-America accolades in the relay as she combined with Pargett, Whittaker, and Rose for a time of 3:27.24, good for 14th. As an individual, she finished 18th in the 200 freestyle prelims (1:34.54) and was 42nd in the 100 freestyle prelims (51.75).
