George Fox looks to improve on its second-place finish in 2024

The beginning of Division III George Fox’s campaign for soccer supremacy in the Northwest got off to a rocky start Aug. 20 when the Bruins suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of Warner Pacific before a crowd of 227 at the Austin Sports Complex.

The Knights’ Abraham Alvarez-Castro scored at the 88:21 mark of the second half of the exhibition match to defeat the Bruins, who also suffered deficits in shots on goal (14-4) and saves (5-1) to the NAIA team.

The Bruins will continue their string of nonconference games Aug. 23 with a home match versus The Evergreen State College. George Fox will play four more games before its first Northwest Conference match, a home battle set for Sept. 12 versus Willamette University.

In 2025, George Fox will attempt to improve on its second-place showing in the Northwest Conference in 2024 with a 10-5-1 record (14-5-1 overall). The 2024 season saw a marked improvement over the 2023 campaign, when the Bruins struggled to a 4-8-4 conference record (5-11-4 overall).

Senior Isaac Williams returns this season after finishing the 2024 season among the top 10 in the conference in game-winning goals and assists. However, gone from the squad is the Bruins’ leader in points, graduate Connor Kong, who was ninth in the conference with seven goals, six assists for a total of 20 points. He was also among the top 10 in the conference for assists.
