How It Happened
BSU struggled out of the gate, falling behind 23-10 at the end of the first quarter.

The Bulldogs (10-5, 4-1 CIAA) had three players score in double figures, led by Destiny Ryles, who had 17 points and four steals. Shelby Ricks added 10 points and Sydney Anthony chipped in as well with 10 points and three steals off the bench.

» Bowie State got a team-high four rebounds from C. Taylor.BOWIE, MD —The Bowie State women’s basketball team got a 26-point showing from the bench, but fell 76-55 to the Fayetteville State Lady Broncos (8-5, 3-1 CIAA) at home Saturday evening inside the A.C. Jordan Arena. 

Bowie State’s deficit continued to grow after halftime, and BSU faced a 57-35 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs played well near the basket, scoring four of its five points in the paint.

Fayetteville State kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 68-44 advantage before Bowie State went on a 6-0 run to shrink the deficit to 68-50 with 3:55 to go in the contest. Fayetteville State responded and outscored the Bulldogs the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 76-55. BSU took advantage of six Fayetteville State turnovers in the quarter, scoring eight points off of those takeaways.

Looking Ahead
Bowie State will remain home to host CIAA foe Shaw University in a cross-division showdown on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 5:30 p.m. for its themed Pajama Night Day inside the A.C. Jordan Arena. 

Fayetteville State kept adding to that lead, building a 31-15 advantage before Bowie State went on a 7-0 run, highlighted by a three from Ricks, to narrow its deficit to 31-22. The Bulldogs continued to chip away, reducing the Lady Broncos lead to 37-30 heading into the break.Bowie State forced 17 Fayetteville State turnovers. The Bulldogs turned those takeaways into 15 points on the offensive end of the floor. Ryles’ four steals led the way for Bowie State.
