History

The Bulldogs had four players score in double figures, led by Wimbush, who recorded a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Warren Mouganda added 19 points and Justin Morrisey chipped in as well with 13 points and five steals. Bowie State out-rebounded Elizabeth City State 53-39 in Saturday’s game, paced by Wimbush’s 12 boards. The Bulldogs also grabbed 13 offensive rebounds and scored 14 second chance points. Bowie State did a great job disrupting Elizabeth City State shots in the contest, coming away with seven blocks. Wimbush’s two rejections led the way individually for the Bulldogs.

Bowie State will travel to CIAA opponent Virginia State on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 7:30 p.m. inside of VSU Multipurpose Center in Petersburg, Va. The Bulldogs are 14-17 against the Trojans since 2008, dropping their last meeting against VSU 66-58 on Feb. 21, 2024.

BOWIE, MD — Amare Wimbush notched a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds to help the Bowie State men’s basketball team (10-10, 2-6 CIAA, 1-2 North) defeat the Elizabeth City State Vikings (10-8, 3-6 CIAA, 1-2 North) 89-85 at home Saturday in A.C. Jordan Arena.

How It Happened
After falling behind 10-9, Bowie State went on a 9-0 run with 13:16 left in the first half to take an 18-10 lead. The Bulldogs then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 32-26 advantage. Bowie State did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 20 of its 32 points close to the basket. Bowie State kept it’s lead intact before going on a 6-0 run to grow the lead to 50-39 with 9:32 to go in the contest. The Vikings then fought back to even things up at 64-64 and send the game to overtime. Bowie State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 12 of its 32 total points. Elizabeth City State then snagged an 84-80 advantage with 1:29 left in the second overtime before Bowie State responded by going on a 7-0 run to seize an 87-84 lead with six seconds to go in the period. The Bulldogs kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 89-85 win.
