BERK ENTERPRISES APPROVED: Located in Warren, Berk Enterprises has received certification as a Woman-Owned Business from the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council.

This certification signifies a new milestone for the family-run enterprise and strengthens its dedication to diversity and empowerment within the food service disposables and packaging sector, according to a press release.

Reilly Berk serves as the owner and president, as noted in the release, of the business established by her grandparents and managed for many years by her father, Rob.

Berk Enterprises specializes in solutions for food service disposables and packaging.

SUPPORT FOR CADENCE CARE: DeSalvo Construction is backing Cadence Care Network this holiday season by matching donations received until Dec. 31, up to $25,000, to bolster the organization’s programs.

The programs encompass foster care, behavioral health services for children, school-based services, and the Cadence Coffeehouse and Creperie, a social enterprise aimed at providing job readiness and life skills to youth facing behavioral health challenges.

WRTA HONORS RECIPIENT: Yellow Brick Place Cancer Wellness Center has been awarded the inaugural Nonprofit of the Year Award by the Western Reserve Transit Authority as part of its Holiday Lights Campaign.

The organization was one of 12 nonprofits recognized during the 4th annual campaign. Each honoree will benefit from promotional support, including bus advertisements, to heighten awareness of their services. Yellow Brick Place will receive further assistance.

It provides support and education to cancer patients and their families by offering individual and group programs in the Mahoning Valley, with all services being free and non-medical.

YSU STUDENTS ACHIEVE IN COMPETITION: Four students from the Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University secured second place in the Association for Supply Chain Management’s Pittsburgh Supply Chain Case Competition held on Nov. 16 at Duquesne University.

The YSU team, which faced competition from 11 teams across nine universities, shared a prize of $3,000.

Alina Marculetiu, an assistant professor in the Department of Management and Marketing and faculty adviser for the team, noted that teams were presented with a qualitative case study on the day of the competition and had 2.5 hours to devise a solution and prepare a five-minute presentation.

The YSU representatives were Skylar Brocious, a senior accounting major from Southington; Elizabeth Saur, a senior business administration major from Grove City; Caleb Sturgeon, a senior business administration major from Beloit; and Sean Ascano, a senior supply chain management major from Girard.

SCHOOLS OPEN FOR APPLICATIONS: The Mahoning County Career & Technical Center and Valley STEM+ME2 Academy are now accepting applications for the 2025-26 academic year.

MCCTC, available to juniors and seniors, offers over 20 career pathways, including health care, engineering, culinary arts, robotics, and cosmetology.

Valley STEM, welcoming 9th- and 10th-grade students, integrates science, technology, engineering, and math into a project-based curriculum aimed at equipping students for future success.

KINDNESS INITIATIVE LAUNCHED: Premier Bank has recently initiated its 5th annual “Powered By (kind) People. Fueled By You.” campaign, demonstrating the bank’s enduring commitment to the community.

The bank also encourages its associates to engage in its Community Volunteer Program, designed to provide opportunities for associates to represent the bank at community events and organizations they are passionate about. The program grants paid volunteer time for associates each year.

Premier Bank has partnered with five community partners from various markets to create a video series titled, “Powered by (kind) People. Fueled by You. Video Series,” to promote kindness and support programs that benefit families in the communities they serve.

NEW ADDITION AT FARMERS: Farmers National Bank has recently employed Rebecca Soriano as project manager. She will be stationed at the Canfield administrative office and oversee various projects throughout the organization.

Soriano brings over 15 years of project management experience to Farmers, with nine years spent in a leadership position.

BURGAN EXPANDS TEAM: Burgan Real Estate has welcomed O’Keal Gist as a new agent.

Gist, originally from Akron, pursued his marketing degree at Youngstown State University. Following his graduation, he embarked on a career as a property manager before becoming a loan originator.
