BVB: 2025 Postseason Awards Announced

DALLAS – Conference USA announced its beach volleyball all-conference and superlative awards on Thursday. No. 15 Florida Atlantic earned two superlative awards in a vote of the league’s eight head coaches. The Sandy Owls top pair Ashleigh Adams and Marketa Svozilova were named Pair of the Year, while head coach Steve Grotowski earned Coach of the Year honors. FIU’s Brianna Luoma was tabbed as the Freshman of the Year.

Adams and Svozilova posted a 25-5 overall record this season on court one, tying the program record for single-season pair wins. The duo opened the season with a program-best 13 wins in their first 14 matches, including a perfect 9-0 season-opening winning streak. Adams and Svozilova were named CUSA Pair of the Week a league record four consecutive times (Feb. 25, March 4, March 11, March 18). The pair went a perfect 4-0 during the CUSA Championship, earning three-straight set wins at the No. 1 position against No. 9 seed Jacksonville State and twice against No. 2 seed Tulane, while also defeating No. 4 UAB’s top pair in three sets. Adams and Svozilova have earned ranked wins this season against No. 3 & No. 4 TCU, which includes a win over TCU’s 2024 Paris Olympian pair of Daniela Alvarez and Tania Moreno, as well as No. 7 Florida State, No. 10 LSU, No. 13 Texas, No. 13 & No. 20 Georgia State, No. 14 Washington, and twice against No. 17 FIU. Adams and Svozilova were also recently named to the AVCA All-America Second Team.

 

Luoma compiled an overall mark of 19-11 overall record in the regular season, most of which came with teammate Katarina Drozd. She had a record of 5-3 on court two and 7-4 on courts three and four. Luoma earned eight wins against ranked opponents this season against No. 13 Georgia State, No. 16 Florida Atlantic, No. 14 Washington, No. 12 Florida Atlantic, No. 11 Arizona State, No. 9 Cal, No. 13 Grand Canyon and No. 9 Long Beach State. The freshman from Edgewater, Florida, went 3-0 at the CUSA Championship and was selected to the all-tournament team along with Drozd.

 

Grotowski led Florida Atlantic to a 21-14 record this season, tying for the second-best season record in program history and marking the fourth 20-win season for the Sandy Owls. Coach Grotowski led Florida Atlantic to a perfect 4-0 record during the CUSA Championship, securing the program’s third all-time conference championship and second CUSA championship in program history. He earned his 50th career win on April 4th against South Carolina. He led the Sandy Owls to four ranked wins this season, with victories over No. 14 Washington, No. 17 FIU, and twice against No. 13 and No. 20 Georgia State.
