Byron first graders collect more than 12,000 diapers for nonprofit
BYRON, Minn. (KTTC) – First graders at Byron Public Schools collected 12,000 diapers this fall to support the Jeremiah Program, which helps single mothers and their families disrupt generational poverty.
Teachers organized the diaper drive as a lesson in citizenship for students. The initial goal was to see which classroom could collect the most diapers and earn a donut party.
“I’m ridiculously proud of all of the efforts of the families,” said Kaleigh Fuchs, a first-grade teacher. “We didn’t know what to expect. We were thinking, like, I don’t know, 4,000 diapers?”
The winning class earned a donut party from Dunkin’, and the entire grade received coupons for free donuts.
Two Men and a Truck loaded up the diapers for transport.
