WINONA, Minn. (KTTC) – For the second time in three years, Caledonia football is headed to state.

With a 19-3 win over Lourdes in the Section 1AA Championship, the Warriors punched their ticket.

“I think we play very good football in this part of the state,” Caledonia football head coach Carl Fruechte said. “Good coaches, good kids, and we feel very blessed to have beaten them (Lourdes) and to get another week with our young people.”

Caledonia entered the Section 1AA Tournament as the No. 3 seed. The Warriors found their stride after a 1-2 start to the season, as they ride an eight-game winning streak into the state tournament.

The Warriors will be slotted into the South section in the Class AA State Tournament. The quarterfinal round of the state football tournament runs from Thursday, November 6 to Saturday, November 8. The MSHSL is set to unveil team seedings this weekend.
