Cam Smith has announced that the roster for Ripper GC will remain unchanged throughout the LIV Golf transfer period.
Smith, who oversees Ripper GC, guided the all-Australian team to success at the LIV Team Championship held in Dallas in September. The franchise’s fruitful season also featured wins in Adelaide and Singapore. Smith’s team includes fellow Australians Marc Leishman, Lucas Herbert, and Matt Jones.
Even with Jones being out of contract, it appears Ripper will keep its existing roster for 2025. “Everything’s going to stay as it is,” the former PGA Tour star informed Bunkered during this week’s PIF Saudi International.
“It’s tough to alter a team after winning the title. To be honest, we performed really well all year. We could have taken part in a few more tournaments throughout the year, but that’s something we can address. There’s no reason to make any changes.”
This news follows confirmation from LIV sources to Mirror US Sport this week that a key objective for Smith and Ripper is to secure Jones for the next season. Jones was Ripper’s lowest-performing participant in the 2024 breakaway circuit, concluding the season 42nd in the standings.
His top performance was during Ripper’s win in Adelaide in April, where he achieved a tied ninth place. Meanwhile, Smith’s squad seems to have restored their confidence in the 44-year-old as they prepare to defend their title in 2025.
Up to this point in the off-season, LIV leadership has not declared any new additions, but according to a leak to Sports Illustrated, interest has been rampant. “My phone has been ringing constantly basically since just before Dallas, and things are beginning to unfold, whether from players directly or agents reaching out to explore the chance of joining [a LIV team],” an anonymous LIV General Manager disclosed.

“Based on what I’ve been hearing from within, I would estimate that one or two major names might be joining. Two individuals who received substantial offers and are now reaching out would love to join [a LIV team] and stated that declining the offer was the worst decision they’ve made.”
Recently, sources informed Mirror Sport US that a PGA Tour player, who achieved their place through the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai rankings, has contacted the Saudi-supported LIV Golf.
